May 14, 2004 9:47 AM- no soup for you

Here's the thing. I had to get the previous post to be gone (for obvious reasons), but I have no new photos to share (have plugged in an oldie but goodie of our little Henry--of course, in doing so, I am completely responsible for intensifying the sibling rivalry since Ollie has not had nearly the blog time that Henry has had-- but I will rectify that in the future and the all-love-dog will get his 15 minutes of air time, too). And, I am home from work today because the 72 hour countdown is underway. So the only writing that will be gettting done for the next several days is to finish/polish the book manuscript as it must be in the FedEx envelope on Monday, May 17 without fail. Which is to say, I have to get the previous post gone but have nothing with which to replace it.

Wait, one bit of news-- the book contract is signed, sealed and delivered. A major milestone in my life. Our agent got all of our changes to go through including lovely phrases like, "escalating royalties" and "advance". Although, a significant chunk of our advance will go directly to this agent for her hefty fee. But, that's it. She is not getting any percentage of profit so from here out . . let the greenbacks roll, baby.

So, now all I have to do is deliver what they just purchased, uh-- no stress, no stress, no stress. I am home. It is a beautiful May morning. I worked until the wee hours every night this week except Weds because an hour or so into it my creative juices were kaput and had to stop and Thursday night I took off to rest my weary gray matter since I knew I had today-- all day. Wait. That means I only worked late ONE night this week. Tuesday. That was it. How could I have deceived myself so? And now it's already going on 10 am cause I had to take T (that would be the perfect husband who defies all definitions because of his wondrous, amazing abilities to tend to my every need-- just in case he's reading this) to drop off his truck.

So, I must go. NOW. No more wasting of time goofing around there is some serious-ass writing that must get done NOW. And then, oh baby, the tequila and limes and chasers and dancing in my future when that fat little FedEx envelope sails into the mail sea. Til then, be well.

got 2 cents?

henry is precious! and congratulations on your book contract. That is a very BIG milestone. So what's the book going to be about? (Don't murder me for asking, please!) But I wish you much tequila and limes post deadline.

Henry looks distinctly like he'd be ready to Par-TAY! at any moment. Definitely a frat boy. I love the ears and the worry wrinkles between his eyes and the hamtongue of course....but my eye keeps darting to the bit (meat and two veg, twigs and berries) between his legs which proudly declares he's all boy. Finny has got that bit. Because she's a GIRL, GIRL, GIRL. O E, darling E..... I'm so proud of you. When will you be free to explain what the book is all about?!!

O... giggle and snort! I just read Yogagirl's comment... too funny. Trying to think of some witty comeback involving the midnight oil and such, but none is forthcoming. sigh. And oh, crap... I meant to say of course, that Finny DOES NOT have that bit...(cuz she's a girl, a girl, a girl)...but my bear of little brain-yness continues to war against me and my vigilent effort to be all down with the proper use of language and spelling and grammar and such. sigh.

Enjoy Henry's bits while they last. He and Ollie get the big snip-snip next Friday which I cannot even think about without getting sad even though I know it's for the best since they were both rescue babies but it breaks my heart.

I'm not being coy. I have signed a non-disclosue and can't share info about the book. But this time next year when it is in bookstores I'll talk your ears off. In fact, I feel certain you'll be throwing things at me telling me to SHUT UP ABOUT YOUR FREAKING STUPID BOOK!

Good call, book advance, stuff of dreams that, but for those of us who dream of it and are just writing for fun currently it is worth remembering that we do it now without pressure, it is a pleasure, a hobby. You now have the real pressure of not just doing it for fun but doing it well and like now. Good luck with it, got to be a bit of a buzz to know that you can cut it with the big boys to the extent that someone will give you dosh for your talent. Outstanding.

Congratulations on the book deal! That's truly amazing news. I have to say this, if I am ever able to write (or say) those words one day I'll feel as though my life were finally complete. Such a great accomplishment. I toast to you. And such a fine fella this big guy is!
