May 06, 2004 3:21 PM- later in the day

T has this theory that anywhere I go I seek out whatever is French. Oh how totally FAUX. It is the French things that find me, mon cher.

Let me just say, I am feeling 1000% better. The day is glorious. Hot, bright sun with a cool steady breeze. Amazing what ibuprofen and a fresh cappuchino can do for the soul.

Yes, Roy D. is still with me, but I put him on ice (or ice on him) for hours last night and he is being rather docile and well-behaved so far today. (NOTE: for those who have been struggling with my oh-so-coy nomenclature, Roy D is a fucking HEMORROID. Okay? I was trying to be discreet, oh well).

I walked into town wearing a little black tank and some very loose (god bless them) capri pants and my new pink Charlie's Angels (the movie, not the tv show) shades. I forgot how much I totally love the weather here. I can step out of the shower and leave my hair to do its thing-- no frizz, just it's total natural, loose best-- god. This is why I still have a one-way ticket back. Forget land of enchantment. They should call it land of endless good hair days, ahhh.

Don't think I don't know my pictures suck. I know they do. But I'm not a photographer and I am using a weeneie digi cam. I'm just trying to share a bit of the flavor. If I could, I'd program in the smells. My god the SMELLS-- everything is roasting, and baking and grilling and lilacs are in full bloom and their sweetness is wafting. It's a veritable cacophony of scent.

After checking out all my favorite haunts including this

one of my world FAVE restaurants, I headed back to my bungalow to fix some lunch.

Home sweet home. If you want to check this place out the website is wwwDOTdeRomeroDOTcom. The pics don't even begin to show how fab it is. And so much less expensive than most places around. Anyway, just sharing what I think is a total find. A bientot--

got 2 cents?

I wan to be there instead of here. I wanna wear pink charlie's angels sunglasses. I wanna smell lilacs. Instead, I'm here trying o convince the wolf that the thunder WILL NOT GET HER, but the lightening might, wondering how in the hell I got my socks all wet and waiting to be one of the lemming horde that rushes to view the last ever episode of Friends and watch the 2 million dollar commercials. except we probably won't get the 2 million dollar commercials. "cuz there American and we aren't and our commercials suck.

Oh no Wee-- Candians rock! They are the new Americans, you haven't heard? Everyone hates Americans now and wants to be Canadian. I wish you were here, too--- me, I guess I should catch Friends once before they are off the air but I can't miss SURVIVOR!! lol

Oh! Oh dear! I read your post to me about rumps in the air and hoped, for your sake, that you were referring, in a genteel manner, to a rowdy roll in the hay but alas. You have my sympathy. Seriously, from my stitched-up ass to your swollen one - Kampai! Sante Fe looks beautiful. Now I have to read the archives and figure out why you are there...

I'm not a photographer either, but those pictures look fabulous to me. The clay coloring is so vivid....

You should know I'm equal parts Canadian and American. I's gots the dual citizenship, don'tcha know. Lived all over the US of A. ...born in Idaho, lived in Wisconsin, Texas and Colorado. Yessirree. I'm well travelled (in terms of North America, anyway). Also feeling the need to defend my furry daughter. You must understand that Finny Jane wasn't always so nasty to other wooflets. She used to be lovely with other dogs. What we think happened is that she injured her back on the flight over here when we moved from Calgary, Alberta. we didn't realize that she had injured her back till two months later...we knew she was acting strange (licking her paws raw, not wanting to go out for a walk), but we assumed it was because of the trauma of the move. Anyway, in an effort to help her adjust to her new environment, we practically forced her on every dog we saw, trying to encourage her to play. But playing with other dogs just aggravatiated her back problems and she became very defensive of her personal space, probably associating other dogs with pain. We don't know for sure that that's the cause of course and she's not talking...but her chiropractor (also a regular vet) thinks that's what happened and says she's seen it with many other dogs. She's not truly aggressive...she won't run up and attack another dog or anything, even if she's off-leash. She just does her best to ignore them. But if they come right up to her and start sniffing her or trying to engage her (even playfully), she will snap and put on a dominate display. She's okay with older, slower dogs who aren't that interested in engaging her physically in any roughhousing (6 seems to be the magic age) and is better with other females than males because they don't try to mount her and seem to give her her space. Still, I wish she got along better. She hasn't actually hurt another dog, but I try to avoid contact with then because it is scary for everyone involved and I would feel awful if anything happened. But aside from the other dog thing, she is perfect and so incredibly charming. She's super smart and spirited and playful, affectionate and loyal, loves people, children and babies and I'd sooner part with a limb than part with my Finny J. I can't explain the depths of my love for her. She's imbedded herself in my soul and somehow she saves me in some way each and every day. I guarantee you'd fall in love with her too (providing she refrains from eating your pups). And as for her shiny coat...well, really it's a part of her breed (half flat-coated retriever (FCR), half golden retriever....although looks 100% flat-coat except that she's a bit stockier and wider through the chest like a golden and her nose is not quite as pointed as a pure FCR). Or maybe it's the swamp water. It's a good thing those photos aren't scratch and sniff as she was (is) in serious need of a good bath and every inch of her has a different and likely not pleasant aroma. (she's ultra absorbant and likes to roll in the most offensive of stuff). Okay...going to see if I can get away with a post this long now!
