May 17, 2004 9:18 PM- abbadabbadabbababba said the monkey to the chimp

At some point, in some morning hour, somewhere in the last three days, I went out into the garden and clipped my very first bouquet of the spring and brought it back into the studio (above). I have absolutely no memory of doing so, but with this kind of photograhic proof (and the fact that it is still there right behind me) I have to accept that I did indeed do this and that my mind was otherwise occupied. And how.

The book is done.

Done. Done and delivered

There was a really bad moment on Saturday when I thought I would die and wondered why on earth I would ever put myself through this and then Sunday night, when the fat stack sat in a red manila folder with a CD-rom on top, I have to admit it felt sooooo good.

But, credit where credit is due I owe it all to the following:

John Hiatt, Little Head
Indigo Girls, Rites of Passage
Allman Bros, Live at the Fillmore side one
Sixpence None the Richer
1 bag Doritos
1 bag Snyders sourdough pretzels
1 bag Tostitos
1/2 coconut cream pie
3.5 gallons of coffee
1 frappachino with whipped cream
1/2 large pizza with roasted red peppers, onions and black olives
6 Diet Pepsis

If you think I'm kidding about how critical these elements were you simply don't understand that this was my FUEL and although I am sick to my stomach now and expect to be for another day or two, there was absolutely nothing else that would have gotten me through and I have to say, I believe this combination of sound, lyrics, carbs, sugars and assorted toxins may be one of the great creative elixirs of all time.

It does occur to me to wonder, however, what other people do. I have had one too too too many writing marathons like this past weekend and I have always relied on this combo (or variations thereof) to get me through. What do other writers do?

But after the exhausted thrill of last night and the dreamy hangover this morning, I am back in my regular life and GOD AM I TIRED AND JESUS AM I HUNGRY.

One last note to all devoted fans of Henry's delicious ears . . . you've got competition.

got 2 cents?

HeeHee--love the ear pic! Oh, I am jealous, yes, I am. BIG CONGRATS to you, chica. I'm so glad you are done, done, done! There is a little happy otter dance being performed in your honor right this minute :~)

Glad you are done - congrats. Only 3.5 gallons of coffee? Rites of Passage is a great album. My dogs clean each others ears too - I find it very sweet.

O delicious puppies! I wanna cram them both in my mouth and savour their velvet carmel goodness whilst drool leaks out the corners of my mouth...cuz while large, the mouth is probably not big enough to contain such hot diggity doggity fun and I drool at the best of times. O...congrats. I so know how you feel, the queasyness, the relief, the greasy film of late. late night still on you and your eyes gritty with the strain of it. But you did it! You did it! And even though you sometimes thought you would die, you didn't and you DID IT and now you can do ANYTHING!!!

The dogs picture is lovely, but the spring flowers are simply beautiful! You're so lucky if you can just go out and pick them yourself...
