October 09, 2008 6:53 PM- the face of evil

It seems Laini is verbalizing for me so much of what is churned up with this election and I am linking to her again here.

She posted this youtube video at her site today and it is genuinely shocking.

Naturally, people have different responses to it, but I was most gratified by what I read in the comments section of Laini's post. Specifically, what Alex wrote:

I don't understand being nonpartisan in these times, with so much at stake. I really don't. Its like Switzerland in WWII being "neutral" while all around so many people were suffering, being murdered, etc. We have a Republican administration which falsely led us into a war which has resulted in the murders of over 100,000 innocent Iraqis, more than 4,000 American soldiers, and so very many, many more who have not died but lost limbs, have severe PTSD, burns, etc, We have a vice-president nominee who would force you, our mothers, sisters, daughters, and friends to have a baby against our wills even if the person you loved was a victim of rape or incest. There are times in life where to not take a side makes you an accomplice of evil and I really think this is one of those times where that much is at stake. We have a war-mongering presidential nominee who doesn't believe that every child, man, and woman has a right to adequate healthcare. For the past three and a half years, I have seen the direct results of severe cuts in mental health services to the poor, mental health programs entirely cut out of our public schools for students and their families (including children who have serious suicidal depression with no programs to take their place)- and McCain wants to give more tax cuts to the rich when they haven't worked for the last eight years. I think being nonpartisan is as bad as being indifferent and like Elie Wiesel said, "the opposite of love isn't hate. Its indifference."

got 2 cents?

They views and verbal tactics of the McCain supporters makes my stomach turn. Neither one of our candidates are guilt free but my God I don't hear Obama supporters being so vile.

I couldn't bring myself to watch the whole video. Those people are terrifying in their extreme ignorance, and it makes me really hope that Obama has good bodyguards. I consider myself nonpartisan in that I don't blindly side with one group or the other. I vote according to the issues at stake and who I think will lead us in the best direction. But wow, videos like this automatically make me want to vote opposite, no matter the candidates.

Oh! My! God! Is that for real? That's more frightening than any horror movie I've ever seen. I'd like to think that I'm a compassionate person but it turns out I'm not... if I had been face to face with blondie (y'all know which one I'm talking about), I have a feeling a cat fight may have ensued.

I am around people that are on the very brink of being lumped into that group of hateful non-thinkers. Instead of getting angry and stooping to their yell and point tactics, I very quietly add more Obama paraphernalia to my cubicle. It irks them to no end knowing that I support "the enemy" and that I politely refuse to get into a debate. What is with all of the fury and hate? I just don't get it.

Canadian who recently de-lurked. :) Just needed to let y'all know, again, that your Canadian brothers and sisters KNOW not all US citizens think like these crazy-asses do. The change is coming! (We have crazies like this, too! Look at our current Prime Minister...eek). There's a great network of Canadians for Obama that have been working their butts off, too. Keep strong.

hey !!!! Are those people from my old neighborhood in Texas?..I swear! What with their "we support the president" signs in their yards and big "W" stickers on their gas guzzling hummers. (( (shudder )) It's soooo good to be back in the blue state of Oregon and display my "Obama for President" yard sign proudly. Without fear of having my car keyed or my house egged. I'll never forget 2004 when I saw a handwritten sign in the back of a car on a scrap of NOTEBOOK paper. The guy had written "Bush sux Dick.....Cheney". At the time I thought he was either 1. Very Brave or 2. Had a serious death wish.

I'm with Lizardek on this one. Boggle. I agree--to not take a stand is to take one... And I am flored, utterly, by people who can make the "terrorist" claim based on someone's effing NAME. Yet it shows me how diversely educated and uneducated we are. How diversely our priorities differ. How diversely our believes are strewn. And diversity requires tolorance.... right? That lady gave me the shivers on the UTube clip.

Hey Blue Poppy, I wrote about the same thing today. I love being on your wavelength, though it's sad to be on such a horrifying wavelength.

Listening to this clip...so frightening. You know what I find interesting? That no one... has brought up, as far as I know, besides my Army veteran father...this references the person who said that Obama was under a "Muslim influence"...anyway, John McCain was under who knows WHAT influence for 5 years as a POW. Who knows what that did to his mind, to his heart, etc.? (Through no fault of his own...) My father brought this up as a legitimate concern...I poohpoohed it because I thought it was unfair. But it has a great deal more relevance than someone growing up with a Muslim stepfather for a handful of years. I hope it's not out of line to add to the discussion...respectfully.
