I?m sorry, what?s that? Are you there?

I can?t see. There?s something in my eyes. I?m blinded.

My GOD. It?s the SUN.

THE SUUUUUUUHHHHHHN.

Holy hell. How do people DO without their daily organic radiation? It has been literally weeks of rain in these parts. I would post photos of the sun's reappearance in her* full beach-bikini-beauty, but that?s going to have to wait until this evening (fingers crossed that there?s still sun when I get home).

Just to backtrack to a couple of posts ago when I shared with you my interior d?cor angst?um, yeah---it?s all about courage and creativity and confidence. It might also be deeper stuff. Home is an expression of our inner selves, non?

Whether it is cold and drab, messy and disorganized, or warm and inviting with a unique flair?at the end of the day, it?s really a reflection of ourselves. I could go into a bathetic exploration of my childhood home and make connections between then and my struggles now to create a home but I will spare you that because I practice DSWMT? blogging (Don?t Splatter With Maudlin Tripe).

Let me instead point to a role model: Laini has THE most gorgeous post up about how she nests with abandon (5/24/06 post).

I decorate with winter squash, bouquets of herbs in little vases, and dishes of cranberries or kumquats. I get peevish when people eat the kumquats and have learned that a bowl of key limes is less likely to become a husband?s snack

I want to pack her up and fly her here to help me learn how to unleash my inner nester. I know it?s in there somewhere?probably under the existential covers of some sub-conscious bed.

Is nesting a learned thing? Nature vs Nurture? I don?t know.

I really wish I had a friend nearby who had a gift for this kind of thing and could help me along?alas, my friends are not really the nesting types.

Having said all that, c?mon, if Wee (Wee! Of the whilst! And the Martha Stewart addictions!) admits to wrestling with the home decor angels-- and we?ve all seen her gorgeous design skills and color wampum?then I?m going to cut myself a huge slice of slack, slather it with mayonnaise and call it a day.

However, if any of my attempts turn out satisfactorily, I?ll share some pics with y?all.

*some might argue that the sun should receive a male pronoun--to them I say, not today my friends, not today

got 2 cents?

Here's a trick: instead of trying to decorate the entire house (which could be daunting), pick a very small space, preferably a small space in a favorite part of the house, and focus only on that small manageable place. Allow yourself complete freedom to do whatever you feel like in that small space, free-associate, let it be a reflection of your taste and just put the kind of stuff (inclduing paint color) there that makes you happy and makes you want to stand there and keep looking at that corner - and then, just expand, expand, expand. And if needs be, revise, revise, revise. Most importantly: have fun!

I just, just noticed that we have nothing decorative in the whole living area. And I only noticed because we had guests. I felt naked and quickly busted out something that could hang but only to hide the naked-ness. I don't love what that says about me... Surely you have more on your walls than I!

The "Sun" has struggled out from behind the early morning bank of fog and is shining brightly casting shadows through the trees - Nesting should be fun - hope you will find some fun and joy in your nesting plans!

Nesting is definitely a learned behavior, depending upon your personality type. My mother was a nester, so I nest too. But who cares about nesting when you have the sun to bask in?

P.S. "Nesterquest" has got to be the coolest title for a post ever.

I always excuse my lack of nesting/decorating flair on my dear mama - moving from military house to miliatary house, she did her best without painting walls or hanging tons of art. She did have some gorgeous German lace curtains that I think are the bees knees, though. Take pleasure in the things that seem beautiful to you, and scatter them about. You can't go wrong with that! (That's what I keep telling myself, and that's why my house is decorated with books.)

Cut yourself some slack too, because there is so much gorgeousness outside that you must be a bit overwhelmed every time you go inside. Plus, you know how it is going from bright to dark? Both are good, but it takes a minute to adjust?
