May 05, 2006 5:07 PM- oh, but I'm not

I got an email today from T whose subject line read, "can we just say you are so cutting edge?"

You see, the weekend before last I went down to Boston and on my way home made the requisite stop at Trader Joe's for those elementals without which life turns gray like in Pleasantville: blood orange juice from Italy, Fage Greek yogurt, sixteen hundred bags of frozen wontons, and sundry specialty treats.

When I got home, T unloaded the goods and stopped to comment on a big bottle of beer I had bought.

Him: You bought beer?*

Me: Isn't it pretty?

Him: What are you going to do with this big bottle of beer?

Me: I don't know. I just liked the label.

Him: *without words*

Me: Tra la la la lah.

As you may have guessed-- the email I got from my husband had a link to this as the beer in question was, of course, a lambic.

I believe it is safe to assume what cold, frothy beverage will be consumed on this beautiful Spring evening. And OH! is it ever a Spring fever evening-- the weather is full on clothes-dropping soft and sultry. And I. Am. Ready!

Here's wishing you a perfectly lovely week-end!

*As a general rule of thumb, I buy wine. If I buy beer, it's in the form of a six-pack and purchased for the specific purpose of getting friends drunk.

got 2 cents?

So it's safe to assume you're going to get each other drunk and indulge in some naked wonton lust? (I could.not. resist.) Happy Weekend! XO

*giggling* - I thought I was a weirdo for buying things that are not customary to my nature just because I like the label. I am not alone! Thanks BP! PS - Enjoy that sultry weather.

Very funny conversation AND good taste. Have you tried it yet? Did you get a flavored one? Raspberry's good. Those Belgian monks know how to make beer. We have a beer store in Portland that has a gazillion kinds -- you can pay as much for a good bottle of lambic as a bottle of wine. Also a big fan of TJ's.

That Fage yogurt is amazing, isn't it? Have you tried the Tandoori Masala Papadum chips? New and tasty!

Blood orange juice sounds positively decadent. I remember when we first moved to Europe and found blood orange SODA how fascinated I was with it. It is SOOO good. Much better than regular orange soda. :D

i tried blood orange juice for the first time while in london in march. (this was at pret, of course!) it was called dracula or vampire something, so of course i had to get it. the sad thing was that i didn't get to try more than a sip of it while traveling. (i didn't drink it right away and took it back to the hostel only to find the next day that the cap was defective and so it had been exposed for a couple of days. i didn't trust it to be safe.) i did like what i tried though. but if tj's has it, i'll have to check that out!

I have a dream...that one day, I too will have the privilege of entering the hallowed aisles of Trader Joes. This Southern girl has never even SEEN a Trader Joes. I feel so bereft each time I read of some ultracool blogger and their Trader Joes experience. The lambic sounds VERY interesting - and yes, it makes total sense to buy something because the label is pretty.

I was at Trader Joe's today and thought of your post. I got some goodies, but no beer this time. Although, I once bought a bottle of the chocolate beer they sell...have you tried it?

(the weather if full on clothes-dropping soft and sultry....what more could a girl want?)
