May 24, 2006 2:46 PM- helping hands

Given that many of you lovely readers are animal lovers I wanted to pass along a link to a wonderful site.

A Place to Bark . . . and Meow

Bernie is a multi-media artist who also runs an animal rescue center. (I found her blog through Anahata's site. Anahata taught one of the classes I took at Artfest-- you might remember words I used like, um, goddess, angelic shepherd-- um, don't tell her I said that, but yeah-- she totally is).

As most of you know, both Henry and Ollie are rescue mutts so I have a deep and immediate wellspring of affection and appreciation for Bernie who works so tirelessly to save these animals and find them safe homes.

got 2 cents?

That picture is priceless. Could those dogs be any cuter? Anybody who puts the needs of furry people at the top of the heap is A-OK in my book. And if I lived in a bigger house, I would totally adopt another pup.

I so agree with Meg. Three of my four are rescues. I am not allowed by my friends or family to adopt more, but I would if I could. Furry friends bring so much joy to our lives.

I know this is an awful thing to say, but I really like that photo of the tick. To clarify, I like the photo. Not the tick itself or what the tick did to the dog.

Wow, I didn't realize your boys were so young! No wonder they're always getting into trouble! :) My parents are seriously considering driving up a truckload of inoculated stray dogs next year if & when they come to visit from TX. MA has serious restrictions about bringing in animals, but the shelters have so few adoptable dogs (they're overwhelmed with Rottweilers & Pit Bulls), especially puppies that when these rescue vans come in with dogs from other states, there's usually a line of people waiting to claim the dogs as they're unloaded. It's heartwarming and sad at the same time. When I visited TX in March, I counted 19 gorgeous stray dogs in the area around my parents' house. Broke my heart.

my dogs lick eachother's ears.....experts say it is in order to keep thier ears clean but i believe it is because of love....they take care of eachother....even my youngest does it to my oldest and most dominant...all my dogs are very close so i think it is love.
