We had a dazzling three hours of sun this morning before thunderheads rolled across the lake and our environs were once again, sodden.
Henry and I decided to run out into the field while there were dangerous UV rays to absorb.
Behold! The hunter.
Watch how he uses his highly developed auditory faculties to identify prey.
Carefully, fearlessly, he stalks the legendary black ant.
But our hunter is not a destroyer. Nay. He is an evolved being who knows that communication is the way to peace. Here is he saying to the little ant, "little ant, I could eat you with one swift inhalation of this great nose of mine."
"But I am a gentle being and have no need to harm you or yours. Here, let me share with you a handstand pose from my yoga practice to demonstrate my non-violent ways."
And so the hunter, having revealed his inner wuss, allowed himself to be photographed pussy-footing in the pond.
And then, with the sky darkening our morning adventure came to an end.

It's so good to hear about Henry just enjoying life, with no porcupine quills or sharp sticks involved. The next to last picture is breatakingly beautiful, you should put it in a silver frame. His expression in the last picture makes me want to kiss his snout!

It's wonderful that you got a break and got some sun. We have had very very hot weather here and I am somewhat delighted that we are getting some needed thunderstorms. The soil in my garden was cracking from the dryness and I was forced to turn on my irrigation system a couple of weeks ago...very odd for Oregon.

oh Chris-- it's so true. He ditched me to chase a moose the other morning and was gone for 45 excrutiating minutes-- when he came back I couldn't resist snuggling him when I should've ignored him. Victoria-- he's a mutt: as best we know, yellow lab plus sharpei, plus mastiff with perhaps a dash of great dane thrown in.

"Henry". That name has such glorious gravitas. It really suits his looks too, although seeing pictures of him bounding around some might not accord with that, right enough!
