May 30, 2006 9:10 PM- ye olde watering hole

I am a fixed sign; this doesn't make me proud. Au contraire, I love to pretend that I go with the flow, that I like to mix things up, that I'm all about the new and never about the old.

Ah but no.

If left to my own devices, I could happily eat the same favorite lunch each day. I've never changed my hair color, or worse, hair style to any significant degree.

Basically, if I like it, I keep it and settle my bum down into that deep rut with a sigh of contentment like a muddy old sow.

You might think my husband, seeing as he is an Aquarius like me, would also be set in his ways. This conclusion lacks critical data: he was born on the cusp. And though he can be stubborn as a mule (sorry darling, it's one of your endearing traits), he also is constantly seeking out the new.

Example: he shows me a new path through the woods. Lovely! That is the path I walk every day because-- doh, it will be new to me forever-- I am FIXED like that. And then, he takes me on another path and oh! More discoveries.

How sad am I? Full disclosure? He actually went to see Pulp Fiction before I did so that he could tell me when to hide my eyes-- is this codependency? If it is, please don't tell me-- it's so comforting.

So, Saturday, after living here and exploring (I use that word ever so loosely) the grounds for um, like, four years-- T takes me down across the road and shows me a new stream and watering hole that I have never seen before.

And people, when I say right down the road, I mean like not so far away, like in my backyard, literally.

The dogs love it-- I love it. This weekend it became our regular destination when the sun got too hot.

Chances are, it'll be where I take them everyday this summer.

That is, of course, until my husband comes along to shake me out of my rut codependency complacency and turns me on to something new.

Henry: I am so not peeing.

Henry: If I lied, would you love me anyway?

got 2 cents?

He prescreens your movies?! Well, then shouldn't T be doing the opines?? ;) As if we didn't have reason enough to hate you for living amid all that Soliden splendor, you go and spring a damn babbling brook on us...

It must be the Aquarians like T. that got the rest of us the reputation for blazing new trails...my sign is so fixed it's stuck in the mud! Wait, I'm on the cusp, too - T. must be at the other end . Love the boys in the babbling brook!

BLISS! Have you ever walked in a stream to see where it goes? So much fun! (wear pool shoes) I love water. If I lived at Soliden, I'd live right there all summer.

I would have pegged you a Gemini for sure! I think keeping routines or habits or even the same hairstyles prove that you aren't easily swayed by whims or distractions. Which means Blue Poppy is a stream that runs deep. Good on you!

I just want to perch on a rock and dip my toes in the water -- it looks so cool and inviting! Also, there is nothing wrong with being in a rut. Not that I ever get into a rut or anything.

Lovely BP- I'd dip into that stream to cool of on a summer day! Henry looks quite comfy. 1 problem. Picture # 4, lower right hand side under that big rock. Looks like an anaconda in there. Don't mean to be a joykill but, creatures -real and or imaginary- usually have me doing the famous toe dip, rather than the full body plunge a la Henry.

How could you vere from such perfection. Things change when you look away, and you NEVER want this stream, with all its lush greenery and mossy rocks, to change one bit. No! The pictures take me right back to New Jersey, to the Forest Primevil I used to drive through every day. It is perfect. And I don't think the dogs want to go anywhere else either.

It's not a rut, it's um.... comfort. Routine is good it keeps one settled. For the record, I've been known to eat the same thing for lunch so often they don't even ask "the usual?" at the counter anymore. Le sigh

I am with you. I like things where they land, not in their proper place, and it takes real decision making skills to change the flavor of my coffee creamer. And all this from a Sagittarius! Your brook is very lovely indeed and requires much toe dipping and time being spent lollygagging on its banks, with wine and a book and very definitely some chocolate.

See, those traits are much more endearing than my cardinal-sign habit of bossing the living daylights out of everybody. Also, I completely subscribe to Sally's wise words: "I just want it the way I want it."

I'm an aquarius too...I think I fall somewhere in between. I am so stuck in some ways but usually up for something new so that I don't get too bored. I read one time that Aquarius is the only sign in the zodiac who works well romantically with someone of their own sign. You're on to something! What kind of dogs by the way? Sort of look like labs but the heads look kind of like great danes.

i have a spot like that, just up the way, a stone's throw as "they" (whoever that might be) say - and this morning i took our little have-a-heart trap with the contained mouse in it to the falls, so that it could relocate to a glorious new home. it SHOT out, like a cannon, straight over the edge, into said falls. oh, dear. i mean, it scampered like there was no tomorrow, probably ten feet straight INTO those falls. i can't win. and on another natural note, i was walking aspen out behind our house night before last, with just a flashlight to light the way (didn't want to disturb the lightning bugs) when he suddenly reared back with what seemed like shock. i flashed the light over to the questionable spot, and it was a copperhead snake, all coiled up and in its veritable strike mode. UGH. UGGGGGGGH. YIKESSSSSSSSSSS, right where we were s.t.e.p.p.i.n.g. i just don't ever think about these things, no i don't. how aspen knew to jump back, i'll never know. it was inches away from his face, and feet away from my feet. those are my nature stories for today. we love to share them, here in the mountains. (hey, elizabeth - do you think we could stretch some tin cans and some lonnnnng, longgggggggggggg string across the mountains from nc to nh and talk?) xoxo
