April 24, 2006 10:32 AM- an affair with trees

Have I ever mentioned how I love the rain?

I love the rain.

Yesterday morning, (I was in the greater Boston metro, obvs) Tara and I went for a long, long walk through the Arnold Arboretum. The air was wet and cool. Tulips held their fat heads aloft on such graceful, yet impossibly thin stems-- they were ballerinas on point, African women carrying brightly colored baskets upon their heads.

I ran my nose along wet magnolia blossoms and fingered their split, hairy pods that had broken open.

We marveled at the hillside covered in flowering fruit trees, apple, cherry and pear. We slid our open palms on the slick, mottled bark of the ancient paperbark maple.

When we got back to her doorstep our feet were soaked, but our hearts were on fire.

((Will wonders never cease? I have actually posted some new opines.))

got 2 cents?

Aren't tulips just blissful? For a long time they just didn't do it for me, and then one day they were so very, very right. Your springtime walk sounds delicious, very interactive. And I love the friends with money opine, too funny.

Also, you are the only other person besides myself who I have ever heard use the correct past tense of "winging it." HAHA!

I LOVE the rain! I've been praying for cold drizzle for at least the next 3 1/2 weeks. Thank you God, for the bad weather! Love what you said.

I suspected as much about FWM. Just read your opine on Finding Neverland and couldn't agree more. And I don't even like Kate W much. I do, however, love trees, flowers, Ma Nature in general.

I live in Oregon and I like rain if I can be inside and it will agree to stay outside. (okay, I admit it, I am a California native)

I live in Western Australia - a very dry place indeed but we have just had the most blissful couple of days of rain. It's been so heavy! Massive, fat, overweight rain drops watering my garden and making mud for my dogs to play in. Today I went running around the lake with my two friends. We got caught in a shower and it was bloody amazing. I highly recomend getting caught in the rain and thoroughly soaked at least once a year. It has revived my body and my soul! ps I have always wanted to visit Boston..it looks so green, and the buildings seems so serious and respectful. HAve a wonderful week.

I can never inhale deeply enough in humid rainy weather. In my mind, I walked along with you on your adventure in that fabulous park, smelling the mingling of musky and sweet fragrances. My makeup was running by the end of your post. Lovely, lovely, lovely.
