Do you ever have so many things you want to do--good things, things you really want to do---and yet somehow the end of the day comes and--

Yeah, me too.

Wait. Even after four luscious days of holiday where you could spend your hours any which way you please?

*sigh*

Yeah, me too.

But I have no regrets. Yesterday afternoon, T and I slipped our canoe into the lake and paddled out like a scene from The Last of the Mohicans. Except for the not being chased by Magua and the lack of crashing waterfalls, bien entendu.

A blue heron swirled in a great, wide loop around us before heading off to less populated coves (although in our defense, we were the only water craft in sight).

A merganser and his mate swam on by completely engaged in their own conversation and didn't so much as acknowledge our presence.

Two pairs of loons greeted us, one as we came into the channel and the other as we left. At Butterworth beach we stopped for water and cookies, and to take note of the blueberry bushes.

Then we headed back, straight into the wind as we paddled to shore.

got 2 cents?

What is the difference between "bien sur" and "bien entendu"? Lovely morning. And how are the blueberry bushes doing?

bien sur = of course, bien entendu = understood--- I guess in this case you could've used either-- but then, some people would use "although" where another might use "however"-- or not. my English grammar is pretty poor-- I doubt my French is much better--

My day was like that (the time drain, nothing done part), though not like that (the canoe merganser gazing part). What a perfect way to spend vacation! I am demanding you post more pictures of spring in your neck of the woods! And from your canoe trip. So I can live vicariously (small Bean and canoe = not such a good idea...yet)

*sigh* I want your life. Except I already have part of it, apparently. And not the cool canoe part. Or the blueberry bushes.

oh wow. I got off on all london proffers this long weekend, but if it came to it, there would be no contest between that and "slipped our canoe into the lake and paddled out." how very cool.

Sounds gorgeous. Beats the daily commute down the M40 any day.

I was greeted by a pair of loons yesterday evening when I got home from work. They were covered in chocolate, and insisted on plastering it onto my clean trousers.

er-- when I wrote, "take note of the blueberry bushes" I meant geographically so we could come back in August and load up. Right now? Just bare brambles.

Yes. You've described it perfectly. It's like you become more conscious of being alive at that moment, everythings seems more precious to you.

I know exactly what you mean! Sometimes I have so much to do that I get almost paralyzed and I don't accomplish anything! Though, when I have a holiday, I have to say that my favorite thing to do is nothing at all - sounds like you had a great day! Wish I was on a lake right now...

There was this really amzing (& really long) article about bird watching by Jonathan Franzen in an issue of the New Yorker - a few months ago, am not sure of the date - that I totally recommend you read and that I'd wanted to pass along to you but it was before I'd started commenting and felt shy, etc. Anyway, you should really read it. He talks about how he became an avid bird watcher and it is funny and insightful and weird and personal and everything - basically it's wonderfu. I'll look through my stack and find it for you, if needs be.
