And home sings me of sweet things, my life there has its own wings. Fly over the mountains though I'm standing still. . .

Does anyone else know this song I'm singing*? It's Bonnie Raitt on her "Sweet Forgiveness" album-- yes, I said album cause god only knows if it ever came out on cd. Anyway, that's the song I've got going through my head as I am most indeed home. And if feels so good.

In this moment it is still dark out! Damn. I left it was Summer I come home it is Autumn. We have the most magical woodstove hooked up and I made the most pathetic fire in it this morning. We've got hot water, but no sink. We've got doors on all openings but only some knobs. We've got tile in the mudroom but no flooring down. I've got a closet, but can't move into it yet.

In a word: jobsite.

That which I swore I'd never do again. Living in a jobsite when you have to get ready for work everyday and try not to look like a backwoods freak is challenging. But, honestly? It's alright with me. Truly.

I am so happy. It's not quite a hairshirt, but the minor inconveniences of our current living conditions keep me deeply tuned into all that we are blessed with-- kind of how salt can make things sweeter-- and YES, be ready for endless, horrible, food metaphors cause I am just about to be consumed with cooking once again-- that is, once the kitchen is done.

Now, I must find a place to iron my clothes, find a way to salvage my hair and drive off to work. Ciao.

*Am SO looking forward to hearing from someone who is surely going to correct my scrambled lyrics . . .

NOTE: First, Nina you are so right and I corrected the lyrics.

Second, frecklegirl, I won't be at the Harvard COOP book event tonight (even though The Boston Globe did this big, lovely sidebar in their "sidekick" announcing that I would . . isn't that always the way? Grrr) because I only got back to the office after being gone for 2 weeks and would have to leave at 4 pm to get there-- so I blew it off. Peg will cover for me.

But, I WILL be at The Trident Booksellers & Cafe (338 Newbury Street, Boston, MA) this Thursday, the 29th, at 7 pm . . in case anyone wants to swing by.

got 2 cents?

I'm not here to correct your lyrics (they may BE correct for all I know)...but MAN, did you just take me down memory lane with that B.R. reference... ;)

Now I'm obsessing over the lyrics. I think it's "Fly me over the mountains, though I'm standing still" or something like that. Must. Find. Song.

Welcome home! You seem like one of those people who can run a brush through your hair and wear whatever is on the top of the folded laundry pile, and still look amazing -- it must be the French in you.

Moving into a not-quite-finished house must be an 'experience'. I have never lived through that...not even doing a remodel. But how you must love being in your house! Lucky girl!
