August 30, 2005 12:28 PM- kind, not fussy

I've just come back from the post office where I had hoped to find the priority mail my parents had shipped up to me yesterday which contains my birth certificate. (Yes, how old am I? My parents still had my birth certificate!!#@$ I am old, but decidedly immature-- there you have it). Then with the birth certificate in my hands, I would race to the passport center to apply for a new passport (having a moment of fear as I realize my birth certificate has one name, and my name was changed two years ago-- and WHERE is the document that shows my name change???--- GAH--- alongside the passport, no doubt, in that oh-so-safe place I cannot find. SH*T).

Okay. So I have to stop en route to the passport place at the county clerk's to get a copy of my name change certificate-- guess we all know how I'm spending my day tomorrow. But hey. Who wants to work on a Wednesday, anyway? I can wade through red tape instead and during all those long hours when I am just a-sitting and a-waiting, I can reminisce about the hours of my life (days, verily!) I have spent in French government offices. Because the French-- they invented the word bureaucracy, for god's sake. Nobody does red tape like the French. Nobody.

Anyway, so I'm gathering up my mail at the P.O. and lo and behold there is an envelope for me with metro tickets!

The lovely and kind Mrs. Kennedy, aware that I was headed to Paris, sent me her left over tickets from her recent trip! If you read her blog, you know she is traveling right now so not only did she think to do this incredibly thoughtful thing, she did it while in the midst of packing and getting on an airplane herself!

Christ. It's enough to make me believe in the inherent goodness of people.

And you know, that's just not like me. But really, Coquette? We are going to use these tickets and you are going to wear your cashmere knickers and the combination of the magic in the tickets and the glamour of the undies--- we are going to encounter the Big Love of your life. Je te jure. I can just feel the planets aligning and I'm so psyched cause if I see him first and actually introduce you two-- I will have notched yet another (the count will then be at 4) love matches on my belt.

So, a short recap: I have metro tickets but no passport. Ca alors.

UPDATE: Have birth certificate in hand, but must go to Boston tomorrow. Gah. How fun was it to explain to the 3 people (traveling from afar) arriving at work tomorrow for a full day's agenda (that was planned months ago) that, ooops-- gotta postpone our big agenda-poo since somebody can't keep her belongings in order-- oh, better than eating rice krispie treats in bed while watching Le Ballon Rouge. oh yes! It was THAT much fun. But hey! You can trust me to run a 10M launch program! Sure, sure you can. And your keys? Your kids? Your living will? Leave'em with me-- no problem.

got 2 cents?

It was nothing! I didn't have nearly enough fun on my trip to Paris so those tickets are just aching to take you places. Enjoy.

Oooohhh, now I get it. I totally need to pay more attention because I thought she sent you her lost baseball tickets to be humorous. And then I pictured you and Coquette trying to pick up guys at a ballgame. And then I thought, "how on earth is that going to work with BP going to France and all?" And then it dawned on me what a dolt I am as the story came into focus for me. And then I went off to my little corner ashamed at my dorkitude. the end.

Good luck with the passport people! When I got my new one at the last minute a couple of years ago, I had to make not one, but two trips downtown and spend lots of time standing in line, filling out forms and sitting on hard wooden benches. I had also changed my name, but I hadn't gotten around to changing it on my driver's license (actually, I still haven't done that) and it caused a ridiculous amount of confusion.

So. shaking. with. laughter. Forget Bluepoppy, I will always call you "Rainman" now. (Athough that one time I accidentally wrote "bluepoopy"? That had a nice ring to it, too.)

Coquette-- you have no idea what you have started-- I can SO do the "rainman" speak and will embarrass you to the point of agony-- wait and see. Lil, yes, Henry has Sharpei in him-- we think--- he was a rescue. And, "you finished the blog" what does that mean?

No, really, I do believe she MEANT rainman. ;) I once boarded a plane to Santa Fe with a new friend after a TV production we were working on went down the toilet. We were planning a quick getaway to remind us that: a) the TV biz sucks, especially B celebs, and b) it's fun to smudge oneself into delirium. She warned me, as her new flying pal, that she was a tad, shall we say, nervous about flying. But she literally turned into the Rainman on the plane...and since we were flying Southwest and were seated in those facing bulkhead seats, I got to witness of it. That has nothing to do with your passport search, but after worrying about Mississippi for days (Sam's fine), I just needed to remind myself of something goofy, and your post brought that to mind. As for your passport, even on my former island of St. B*mf*ck, they were able to RUSH the passport--costs an extra $60 but I got it quickly. Hope you did the same.
