August 23, 2006 3:51 PM- List-a-palooza!

It began innocently enough. Last week, I decided to unload the to-do tasks from my brain onto a crisp, white sheet of blue-lined paper. Surely once I got the random crap that was buzzing in a relentless circle around my brain onto the page I would be free, non?

Um, no. Or, let me put it this way: that was like, uh, four lists ago--four, as in four single-spaced two-page lists.

God help me. The Lists?the growth is exponential, asexual reproduction?get Hitchcock, no wait, John Carpenter because you haven?t seen horror until you?ve seen THE LISTS. Snakes on a plane? Ha?I YAWN at S.O.A.P.

Which reminds me, we need dish soap--

See? Do you not see? It is endless.

Thank god for my husband. If ever there were an analogy for our relationship it would be a fireman and a skittish cat up a tree. I swear to god. It?s a sad truth that he has had to calmly talk me down from the highest branches time and time again?but

Wait, is this not tedious? Can you not see how very tediously my mind is working?

The new job is wonderful in every respect. However, it is an enormous and extremely challenging situation that is overwhelming me. I know I?ll get the hang of it someday (October 2007? February 2008?), but right now it?s blitzing me.

Plus, I?ve got loads of domestic organization that needs to be done STAT.

And, of course, we have weekend upon weekend of (most welcome) guests arriving to enjoy the last days of summer which is always wonderful, but right now I?m just, what?s the word? Wiped out.

I?m terrible at learning new things?I tend to get overwhelmed extremely easily and I think I could have used more time off between the leaving of one job and the beginning of a new one.

But, hey?it?s my bed and I?ll lie in it. (Wait! Great idea?I?m gonna go lay down). But before I do, I must share with you the loveliest moment of my first day at the new job when I came home and found this package (in celebration of my new job) from the uber-thoughtful, ever-loving, homeschooling mamacita par excellence, Sheryl of Paper Napkin.

What was it I did in a past life? Save a busload of kids? Invent steel wool? Dig tunnels for the Underground Railroad? Cause honestly, I don?t know how I get to receive so much love and kindness, but oh baby?it sure makes the world go round.

got 2 cents?

You are simply you, and you deserve every bit of goodness that floats your way. New jobs are so exciting and wonderful but a bitch to learn - don't be afraid to try something new or implement things that you know work for YOU, as you are the QUEEN OF SOLIDEN, so there. And what gorgeous, delicious glassware. It makes me want to whip up a bunch of deviled eggs and drink sweet tea. Sheryl knows how to send a good gift!!

Skittish Elizabeth, be careful around the glass! :) I agree with Liz--it's great to see you so stimulated! (Hopefully it will moderate a bit soon.)

Thoughtful people rule! I want to be a thoughtful person. But, I'd have to vacation every now and then from my home, which is currently at the center of the universe. And that's just too expensive and my schedule's boolked till January. Congratulations!!! on the new job and cheers to getting into a new groove soon. *s

Packages that beautiful make me drool. How lucky you are! And I understand the overwhelming at first thing - I think I'm going to hit the sack at 8pm for the second night in a row. But it will be worth it for both of us I know!

Girl, you are too cool. Thanks for the lovely comment. Oh, I am a huge, HUGE listmaker. Do you complete everything on your lists? I never do. I have books of lists. My sister loves to read them out loud to me. The gift is lovely. So is your table setting and flowers.

I'm so glad the job is good!! And all jobs are overwhelming at the beginning, before you find a rhythm. You will get the hang of it. Bummer about Artfest, though! I was hoping to get to meet you! Ah well, another time.

My lists are all the same. They're the things from my old lists I didn't do so they have to go on the new list. And then I still never do them so they get longer and longer. Tricks me into feeling in control. Ha! Hope it all settles down soon. Sleeeep this weekend my pretty.

Hitchcock is apropos, 'cause a new job can feel like The Birds (but in a good way). I'm so glad you got this job, I hope you love it. Those sunflowers (are they sunflowers?) are gorgeous!

I understand completely, having planned out our menus for the next MONTH in an attempt to avoid thinking about kindergarten. You'll be absolutely great, BP, and deserve all good things sent your way.

Ooooh preeeetty! You so deserve wonderful gifts and you should never doubt your worthiness of them! My lists never amount to anything because once my brain has spilled out to paper I forget everything. The items aren't bumping around in my head anymore to remind me that they need to get done :)

One day at a time, dear BP! The other path leads only to the snakes on a plane eating their own tails - it's never-ending. I know, I once used up an enitre legal pad listing everything I needed to do, and then I lost the pad. I've never quite recovered : ) What a lovely, thoughtful gift - like glass blown in an enchanted forest by fairies. Embrace it - you deserve the beauteous bounty!

if had such pretty office things it'd make going to work every morning so much easier! you deserve all the newness and beauty. take care of yourself and try not to strike everything off your list at once. i find if i do that it only leads to more list making and the craziness just continues. i'm trying to get to that place where just making the list makes me feel better without actually having to accomplish anything on it. ha!

Lists? What's wrong with lists? The trick is to throw them out and forget about them immediately after making it. Think of it as an act of meditation. ;)

Ah. Give it time and you'll get the job down pat, I'm sure. Glad your husband is your own personal fireman! ;) Mine's the same for me sometimes. Love the present you got! And, hey, is it just me or are all of your apostrophe's now question marks on my screen? I use Firefox. Anyone else see all of those question marks? Weird.
