August 07, 2006 9:34 AM- loving the eating and the praying

Oh but you guys are funny. The words! The words you create!

Dogalogue.

My god, if I were smarter and more productive, how I could capitalize on that bit of genius and make the dollars flow into my bank account with the power of Victoria Falls.

As it is, I've got so many happy little projects in front of me, this quest to be a zillionaire will have to wait its turn.

For those of you wondering, I do want to tell you that I finished Eat Pray Love yesterday whereupon I flipped back to the very first page and began it again.

In a word: breathtaking.

I. Love. This. Book.

It could be all about timing. It could be that the questions she focuses on are questions I am currently turning over in my mind. But it could also be a way of experiencing Italy, an ashram, and Bali that feels SO real without any of that annoying jet lag or struggle.

I am not normally one who would do anything called "travel reading" preferring actual travel to looking at it through a glass globe. However, the way she brings it all in with such specific details-- I don't know. I honestly felt like I just spent four months in Italy and god, I ate too much.

At core, her pursuit here is to find a balance between two callings: tactile pleasure (food, fabrics, people, architecture, etc) and austerity (spiritual devotion, daily simplicity, etc). And she does it with such passion and grace.

Her explorations here (both physically and mentally) have just fed me. They have nourished me to the core. And, they have helped to solidify the journey that I am on here. No, Soliden is nowhere nearly as exotic as Italy or Bali-- but it has its own peaceful beauty here that I can augment with as much bacchanalian saturnalia as the spirit calls for.

It's all about the balance, baby.

But the short answer is I cannot recommend this book enough-- if you are looking for a great read-- hie thee to the bookstore.

Dogalogue! I was laughing about that all day (probably because my family is dog-obsessed and well, let's just leave it at that). I'm glad you found it amusing too - I wish I was that witty all the time.

Don't you want her to come to your house and sit down for coffee and then cake and then bring on the wine and pasta? I feel like I could talk to her for hours, or at the very least, read her blog. I've started reading it again, just to be on the journey, and Lord knows there are always new lessons that will hit me upside the head. So drink it all up again, and enjoy in the way that the Universe truly gives us what we need, when we need it.

Hey you! It's close to 11 p.m. on our coast, and I hope you're asleep, dreaming of a certain lady singing "you're hired" with a chorus of angels and harps behind her. Just wanted to let you know I'm still routin' for ya and I'll be thinking of you tonight. Sweet dreams BP.
