March 11, 2008 10:43 AM- she said, with a smile

A very dear friend made this clay figure for me. Yes, a drowsy fabulist!

And, do look closely, the lovely, well-rounded breasts are really quite true to life, as is the faceless quality. A photograph could not do me better justice. A photograph would surely show lines on my face and breasts that are, how shall we say, most realistic in size and shape.

Am I actually writing about BREASTS on this website? The hell?

I just wanted to share the figurine with you all as who else even knows about the drowsy fabulist? Of course, the sad truth is that there has been the great NIX on anything remotely resembling fabulous or drowsy this winter.

Sunday, after T had to plow his car into the side of a snow bank in order to avoid slamming into a tree that had fallen across the road and we had extracted the car and returned home, I took the dogs for a walk that ended with Ollie stranded in a stream, up to his shoulders in a freezing water, with me flat on my belly 6 feet above him desperately trying to grab a hold of his collar without falling in myself. If you've ever seen the film Ladyhawke, think of the scene where the wolf goes into the lake and Matthew Broderick is trying to save him. Like that, only replace wolf with dog, lake with creek and, I don't know if Matthew was screaming and crying like a lunatic, so you might want to add that part in, too.

Good news, I did get a fistful of collar and neck nape and was able to drag him up and out. Still, the question might be, why on earth would he drop down a six-foot embankment of ice to get trapped in the stream? Oh, that would because he saw a fox on the other side and made the brilliant decision to pursue.

"Good walk?" T called out from the den when he heard us return. I simply went and stood in front of him, my drenched ski pants frescoed with ice crystals that could get Jack Frost a show in Bryant Park. My face, I expect, conveyed the salient details of the walk with no further explanation necessary.

None of this explains why the drowsy fabulist is no longer supine, dreaming up new worlds. Bitch has dreamed up one too many worlds for her own damn good and these new worlds require much attention and maintenance.

Registrations are pouring in for SAW which, of course, fabulous. However, it is teaching me something about myself: I am an incorrigible caretaker. This is not a good thing. I cannot assume responsibility for each and every person's happiness and experience of SAW and yet, that is precisely what I find myself doing. I've gotta shake it off and get back into facilitator mode and simply make sure all the I's are dotted and T's crossed.

NOTE: Latest Artist of the Week is posted.

But, needless to say, it is quite the consuming endeavor so I may be scarce around these parts for the next ten days or so. All of which is to say, the only one getting naps on the window seat is going to be my tiny, clay doppelganger.

Now, please excuse me as I put on crampons and hike down to where my car has been lodged between two snow banks since last night (butt in one, nose in the other). T has informed me there is no getting it free until the Spring Thaws as he can't get the truck up to it or the tractor down to it.

Well, that's just making me insane, so I'm going to go down there with a shovel and see what I can do. If I do succeed in breaking it free and don't kill myself in the process-- I think my next move is to point it due South and drive like hell.

got 2 cents?

I too would have been a raving lunatic in the 'Ollie chases fox across frozen creek' saga. Glad to know that everyone is safe.

I had a dog fall through the ice once on a small lake. NOT FUN! As much as I love snow I think that I too would be a bit stir crazy right now. Enough is enough, right? We've had so much rain here that we are sodden! Just think how glorious your Spring is going to be when it finally arrives. You will probably have tons of wildflowers!

holy crap BP! so glad you were able to reach Ollie and bring both you and he to safety...perhaps some things have to go so wrong and hard and bad for other areas in your life to go so perfectly right ? I like to think there's an overall balance even if the pendulum has swung so far to this side of hell for you. :) p.s. I spotted some vintage blue and tan striped ticking, on a bolt, it's not the tan and white like you wanted, but...I thought of you all the same. I'd go get it for you, if you want it. :) xoxo cs

I didn't realize how much snow and other busyness you were up to your ears in! I'm going to go crawl to the nearest pew and thank the good lord for the sunshine I've got. And to add that I think YOU have had quite enough winter already. Do I hear an A-men?!

Ollie, you idiot!! Mmm...Ladyhawke. I love that movie. Come on spring!! I keep thinking of you and thinking how, like me, you are crazy with the busy. 2008, so far, has a lot to answer for.

Well, at least you know Ollie has the perfect dog instincts. Which can be annoying of course... Hope you get your car out of the damn white crap... she says watching the snow pour down over Montreal. Again.

Sounds like many of my days with my dogs! And cats and fish! I have to say it is refreshing for me to see that someone besides me uses what others call "off color language!" I've always had a penchant to use the little words no one wants their child to utter. But then, mine are grown and I have a grandson now. They're just words. I have a degree in Professional Writing, and to me it's just "grammar" and nothing else! I like to read your blog. Brenda

I wonder, are you guys plowing into the snow banks in a frenzied vertigo or just venting anger? =) Also, I think Ollie was testing you. He wanted to know just how far you'll go for him. He's got to be pleased now. You are his Hero! The Artist of the Week is 'fierce' sans the violent part of the definition.

Your idyllic setting in the woods combined with your clever anecdotes would make a great book. Sort of Little House in the Big Woods meets All Creatures Great and Small. You are delightful.

Its great that SAW is filling up- how could it not? The website is amazing, the artists are top-notch and its organizer is the shee-yaht. BUT, take care of your own self, grilfriend. As a conference organizeur myself, I can completely feel your pain with caretaking. There will always be issues, stress and nit-picky high maintenance folks to deal with. The best advice I've gotten and now give (not that you don't know this already) is delegate, put things into perspective and breathe deeply!

Oh dear lord...I am so glad you are both okay. I almsot lsot my best friend four years ago when she went after her dog on a frozen pond. Rescuers came and one of them fell in, too. It was AWFUL. TERRIFYING. She lost consciousness and was hospitalized in the trauma center and so was doggie. AWFUL. Things happen, and thank GOD you are both okay. And your doppelganger is wonderful... *big exhale* Hug yourself and Ollie for me.

If you get the car unstuck, call me and I'll drive down to meet you and drive south forever. I am so. entirely. sick. of winter. Feel like gagging sick. But the birds: they've returned. Which has to mean sometime soonish we'll get some sun, right?

Frozen forever in time will these ice crystals be...whether snow, ice or rain water seen...it has been much to much...be safe, be well, be of postive mindful dreamy thoughts... Spring is upon us. Praise God that He created the antidote to winter... and with such splender and passion. Now that i see your "drowsy fabulist" in the warmth of the windows sun... i am certain it is you! Very glad the rescue was nothing more... and you are both okay.

Oh, you so fabulous, as always, and now you have a mini-you! And as I've said over and over again - you are always welcome here in my corner of the South. As for Squam, you know I am dying to come, because there is so much for me to learn and you have all these amazing people lined up and it sounds like total HEAVEN but have resigned myself to the reality that this is not the year for me. I am planning on perhaps next year, so I am praying and hoping that it will be nothing but a huge crashing success and that I will be a part of the sophomore class! Go Squam go!
