March 25, 2008 2:10 PM- surely, she jests

Details of my "endlessly fascinating life"*

1. It's 28 degrees outside.

2. Tara called me last night as I was driving home. She wanted to let me know that she had gone skiing over the weekend just up the road from us.

(Last Thursday, for the first time in my life, I had barred her and her boyfriend from staying here as I was "not myself"--- fortunately, she did not ask for an explanation of who I was purporting to be, but simply registered a bit of shock that I was actually saying, no, no houseguests-- THIS to a woman who gave me a key to her apartment last semester so I could stay there two nights a week at will!!

NOTE: a semester that was FIFTEEN WEEKS LONG.
NOTE: you don't want to be friends with me).

Anyway, the purpose of her call was to say, "Wow. You guys have a LOT of snow-- I had no idea-- there were 6 and 8 foot banks of snow everywhere. We don't have any snow down here. We haven't had snow in weeks and weeks. We have crocuses and daffodils . . ."

Hmmm-- interesting observation or payback? You decide.

3. The last time I had my hair cut was the second week of September. I know this because Wee and Otter came up soon after for a visit and there is photographic evidence. And, I know the reason I have not gone to get my hair cut is because she cut it SO short-- I was traumatized. But still, six months? Woman, get thee to a salon! You're scaring me.

4. T had a guitar that he bought off a junkie (okay, an alleged junkie) for a hundred dollars in 1984. Two weeks ago, he listed it on Ebay and it sold for $1800 to some guy in Seattle. Woot. *doing the money dance*

Uh, no----Where did EVERY PENNY of that bit of good fortune go? Why to my car-- which was in the shop, to the plow truck which was in the shop and to his car which was the innocent victim of yet another oil pan disaster-- AND, let's not forget-- the rental car company that provided road-worthy automobiles while we were vehicle-less.

sigh

5. But. My life is indeed "endlessly fascinating" -- surely that should be my new blog byline-- as LOOK what arrived in the mail today!

An autographed poster from Amos Paul Kennedy, Jr.

Could there be anything more perfect? I utterly love it. Thanks to a link from Marilyn that I came upon his website in the first place. So, I think it's safe to say, that the only thing endlessly fascinating in my life are the people in it.

*From her comment to my last post . . .

I have not been to the hairdresser in 7 months and am planning on not going for at least another year. Unless someone decide to start paying me to be a student.

It's been snowing for 2 days here. After no snow all winter, I have learned to be careful what I wish for. *sigh* You'll have to let me know how to pack for when WE are your houseguests. Shall I bring mukluks and snowshoes? Will our rental car even make it up your drive!?

Well, I stand by my statement. You ARE endlessly fascinating, at least to ME. Of course, we all have mundane moments and seasons... I am ashamed to admit that going 6 months between hairdresser appointments is a regular occurence for me - of course, when I had longish hair, it didn't matter so much!

Well, I'm sometimes weird too. Don't especially like having guests who stay over. Rather put them up in a hotel. Which is what I do when I travel to see loved ones. Don't know why. Just an eccentric trait I have. So don't feel bad. Feel good that you were true to yourself. Brenda

I think that is the whole point of blogging. Some how in our "endlessly fascinating" drivel, people do enjoy reading about it. Well, at least I enjoy reading yours... not that it is drivel. Oh, forget it.

Wow. That much snow, for that many months at a time, would make me cranky too (to put it mildly). It all sounds quite overwhelming. Sending out hopes for a quick spring in the northeast, because winter has lingered long enough. Winter, be gone!

Wow! What a cool poster! And yeah, first thing when I get a job - I'm going to the hair salon for a cut and maybe color if I'm feeling really daring (blond and red highlights, and oh yeah, some brown too to cover those increasing grey hairs. Yuck)

Sometimes it's just good to veg out and others it's good to be with buddies. You are right to say which you feel like doing. I would still be your friend.

On the other end of the hair spectrum, I was so inspired by your short 'do, that I got mine cut off and have been going back for rather costly snips every 6 weeks ever since. And I really hadn't added that into the budget for that trip :~)

I've been trimming my own hair for about the last six or seven months now. It doesn't look any different than when the salon does it. But then it's all one length, so it's easy. Color it myself, too. I have a problem with most coloring solutions drying out my hair, so I have to use special stuff from Italy or the natural coloring mixes, and the salons don't carry them. You'll be done with the snow soon...
