March 12, 2007 2:29 PM- the storm before the calm

I know I tell you guys this all the time, but really-- you're too much!!

Thank you for all the fabulous comments on my post of nothing but pictures. I'm still peeved that I lost that long post I'd written because it was full of stuff I wanted to share-- oh well, gotta trust the universe and maybe it was all TMI, baby.

The onslaught of busy does not seem to be letting up-- which I hate-- but I think (*fingers crossed*) I will be breathing again after April 1st . . we'll see.

This past weekend was Tara's birthday so she and two of our favorite wild child friends of hers came up for the weekend and we had a blow-out dinner party followed by dancing and a bonfire on Saturday night. (Truth be told, I didn't make it to the bonfire-- and went to bed after the dancing wound down). It was fun and full and fabulous-- but right now I am feeling anything but.

Right now the adjectives to describe me are: bloated, tired, peevish, churlish, cranky, did I say tired? Overwhelmed . . blah blah blah.

Gah.

**And YET! Last night found us doing STILL more home renovation projects! WTF? Is it just Spring Fever? Je n'en comprends pas.

Some things I remember from the party night.

1. I made Chicken Marbella which is the easy-peasy way to entertain and had a whole thought reverie on how plums are at the height of the fruit food chain (aka "a plum deal," "a plum assignment" etc) and then you dry them and they are the taboo fruit: prunes. How unfair is that?

2. Our friends Tom and Kitty brought their new six-week old baby to the party which prompted lots of "the first weeks with a newborn" stories and the one that slayed me was Allison's.

Ally went to the doctor cause she was having trouble reading road signs and figured she needed glasses-- he sent her to an optometrist who tested her eyes and said, no she didn't need glasses, she needed SLEEP. She was beyond exhausted.

3. T made a red velvet cake and a chocolate torte with a creme anglaise on Saturday afternoon while the four of us went shopping at the Garnet Hill outlet in Franconia-- we came home and the desserts were done, and damn, they were so good.

4. Even when you think you have everything done ahead of time and it's going to be simple -- dinner parties are somehow always big events-- go figure.

5. Waking up the morning after a crazy houseparty is fun. Painful, but fun.

got 2 cents?

Sounds wonderful. It does seem awfully unfair to plums that after they've had their day in the sun, they're all dried up. :-)

I'm so glad you guys had fun! Sounds like a blast. YOu did the right things to sleep over. We drove halfway home drunk on Saturday night (with the KIDS) through a quiet residential neighborhood before realizing it might be better to just sleep in the car. And, 4 hours and about 4 blocks later, we were home after a sobering nap in the car. Aren't we pathetic (but ALIVE and no DUIs) ;) ...I'll bring toothbrushes next time I go to their house!

Everyone's captions were hilarious. I couldn't think of anything clever, so I just enjoyed the good read. I'm sure dinner parties at Soliden are a category all their own - and how ever did you land a man who does desserts? Mine is fabulous at breakfast foods but hasn't meandered into cakes and such.

The least fun thing for me about having parties is having to clean up the morning after!
