July 04, 2005 8:22 PM- I love me some revolution

After weeks (and weeks!) of rain, this weekend was simply spectacular. And, in celebration of those beloved barefoot men who left blood in their tracks as they marched through icy snow to ensure all of us the right to a life where we might pursue freedom and natural tan lines, I went to the beach.

(Mine is the hideous chaise with the garish towels and green bags tucked behind it. Surprisingly, no one seemed to want to sit next to me). Where, you might ask, is T? In the water? On the float? In the shade? Why no. The boy worked the entire weekend digging a 250 foot trench. This trench is in preparation for the solar panels that will be installed beginning Wednesday. So, no rest for him.

And the wildebeasts? Well after they ran off this morning (in fact, they literally tiptoed away from T-- those sneaky SNEAKY stinkers) they enjoyed a long afternoon in the dog shed. Which is where all very naughty dogs go. No matter how adorable.

Oh and Friday night? I came face to face with a black bear. A very big black bear who was right at the bottom of the steps when I came down to throw away some trash just as it was getting dark out. I wish I could say I was the epitome of cool and calm in the face of this unexpected guest, but I must admit to running back up the steps yelling, "Bear! Bear!" with very little (okay, none) coolness.

This is, of course, when you LOVE to have dogs who have no fear of the deep, dark forest and tear after the big, black bear barking as furiously as their little lungs could bark. Bet that big ol' bear will think twice before he comes around here again.

Hmmm, bettter get my boys out of the shed. It's getting dark.

Happy 4th!

got 2 cents?

I am terrified of bears. Utterly witless. I do love your photos of the beach. I wish I were there right now.Our lawn already looks like it's August.

The beach looks gorgeous! How far away are you? Is that T actually driving the tractor? If so I'm impressed! Black bears are supposedly benign (as bears go), but I don't know how I'd react if I saw one.

Sherly, the beach is down the road from Soliden-- 5 minutes away. Yes, that is T driving the tractor. And, you are right, black bears are not grizzlies and I should exhibit more calm-- hope I don't have more occasions to practice but given our location, expect I will.

I love the doggy shed - what lucky pups. And I would have shit at the sight of a black bear.

If I went to take the trash out and met up with a bear, I'm postive I would run back up the stairs yelling "Bear! Bear!" I think that is how the cool kids handle it. The lake looks gorgeous. I think I'm a little jealous.

okay, now i'm all worried about your puppies getting eaten by a bear. but oh, my. i'm so jealous of your pretty PRETTY house and the whole area around you! however, this brings me back to the bear dilemma.

also, i love how the poor baby's all "look at me! i'm cute! look how cute i am in the shed! don't you want to let me out? because i'm so innocently naive and cute!"

Oh my GOD! A, like, REAL LIVE bear??? I forgot - what a funny country you live in! ;-) I've only seen bears in zoos and would die of fright if I saw one in the wilds. Wow...
