December 08, 2008 4:24 PM- for T, who spent the day in his office
It occurred to me this morning, as I huffed through the knee-deep drifts covering the mountainside, that there's something not quite right with this picture.
If I'm not mistaken, I believe it is the man in my life who is so very smitten with nature. solitude. deep woods. So how is it that this is my daily life?
And, lest you think I do not keep you all close as my ski pants whistle a happy tune in the otherwise hushed forest, I often thought to stop, reach around to my backpack, extract my camera, take off my gloves and snap a photo for you as I trekked up the mountain. It's just, you know, too much effort. Just imagine bare branches, white stuff*, streams thick with icicles-- there, see? Who needs photos when you've got imagination?
Oh, and before I forget-- last post question about prints-- they were bear prints and for the size reference, you can see some smaller paw prints next to them-- those are Henry's footprints. Henry, our 70 lb dog. I think that will give you a sense of how big they were. BIG.
But duly noted that in the future I should put some size reference-y thing next to my science projects. Um, yeah-- that would be rather taxing for my brain-- so don't hold me to that, okay?
*Speaking of holding me to something--- I made a wager with Cornball about not using the word that describes frozen precipiation for two months-- December and January -- and then promptly forgot about it entirely and in my first post of December employed that four letter word, rather blithely I might add, on three separate occasions.
I was more than happy to end the bet right then and there and let you all know you really never want to take me to Vegas as I am easily the world's worst gambler. However, Ms. Cornball was not satisfied with my effort and insisted on giving me another chance--- so, if y'all are betting folks-- I'd tell you to put your money on her.
Also-- I loved that comment about how the dust flies in the vaults of the opines . . . yes yes, Almost as much dust as in my closet that needs to be purged and cleaned, much like my studio closet--- so many projects, so little time. I do love the idea of sitting down and sharing an opinion with you, but god, it's already getting dark out and miles to go before I sleep.
The semester ends this week. I have just graded 15 research papers and have another stack of correcting to go, but then--- it's a wrap. And it feels so good.
What feels even better? On Thursday I smooch the pooches good-bye (no, I'm not going to tell you how I say good-bye to T) and climb aboard an airplane. I am headed to Santa Monica for ELEVEN DAYS, people. It's a bonafide vacation that awaits me with sunshine, yoga, beaches and swanning about with the Swirlster.
I will miss T and the dogs---- but trading in pine trees for late blooming roses? ANY. DAY. OF. THE. WEEK.
got 2 cents?

sherry says: I was going to ask about the use of the word you are not using in your last post but thought I was confused (which is usually the case) and only hovered my fingers over the keys. I am slow that way. Enjoy the sun, surf and maybe a tan. posted on: December 08

Joy says: I would so love it if somewhere in that list of projects was a book about building your house. My whole family is so interested in living off the grid with solar energy, geothermal heating, hay bale houses, all of it... I'd love to know how it worked out, what problems you encountered in the process and now that the house is built. I can wait, though. :) posted on: December 10
