March 22, 2004 8:15 AM- Who needs Amsterdam?

There hasn't been a time I can remember when I didn't know there was going to be some big change ahead of us. Not quite armegeddon, but a close second. So, I have always had a readiness for that day in some strange way. I know how to build a fire. I made sure my mate was "survivor" ready. (And, how. The guy and three of his buddies from college bought some land in Maine after graduation. They cleared the land. Built a cabin by hand, etc.) Anyway, I've always said, when the day comes we continue to head north. Not because I like cold weather. (I'm trusting global warming will have kicked in by then and Canadian winters will be more like Virgina springs). Because I just always felt instinctually that is where I'd head.

After this morning's news, I'm thinking I might speed up our move north plan.

Canada is piloting a program for that lovely, most unfairly maligned herb. It shall be available even without a prescription (kid tested, mother approved). Yes indeedy. Soon the coolest place to travel will be just a few hours car ride. For all my claims to be a modern day Cassandra, I didn't see this coming. And, almost more pleasurable to me than the thought of all the good and creative events that will surely grow from this tender shoot, is how freaking pissed off the American government has to be. And if they start a war with our smarter, northern cousin over this, then all hell will break lose.

As it happens, one of my progenitors landed in Nova Scotia in the 1600s. Given what the leadership in this country has done to us, I'd have no problems heading back.

got 2 cents?
