June 19, 2006 8:22 AM- rugosa on my mind

If we were to make sweeping generalizations about Mainers (of course I know that YOU would never do that, but seeing as I am one of those stereotypical tourists who likes to recount her adventures by putting people into buckets--allow me), it's safe to say these people love them some boats.

However, it was heartening to see that these coastal types know an emergency situation when they see it and act with utmost urgency to remedy the diaster as quickly as possible.

We had chosen our inn over the internet and were a bit apprehensive of how it would be.

Oh let us make offerings to the God of Low Expectations! Because we had the dogs with us, they gave us a cabin, set back from the inn itself. A cabin, as it turned out, surrounded by rugosa roses (those wildly fragrant beach roses) that just happened to be in full bloom.

Talk about being swaddled in a blanket of sweetness-- it was truly over the top. Of course, some members of the holiday party were less pleased.

Henry: I thought you said this was gonna be fun. Do I look like I'm having fun?

Fortunately, a dog's idea of a good time is pretty damn simple.

That was Thursday. More to come.

BP - girlfriend, looks like the 4 of you had a fabulous time. The pictures are amazing. My sister's father in law lives on Long Island and has an awesome 45 foot boat that I've been trying to get myself invited on for ages. I was shocked when I heard what it costs to gas it, rent the space in the marina, and keep up with the 'upkeep'. shit. I'm glad you guys had a great time. Looking forward to more pics.

That looks lovely. I was just reading a book set on a island off the coast of Maine this weekend, and your photos show it is exactly as I pictured it. Glad you all had a good time.

How wonderful! I love Maine - especially the boats! The bigger question though is did you get any Doritos before the truck broke down?
