November 16, 2007 12:55 PM- extra points for punctuation

There?s good scary and bad scary.

Good scary is when you walk your dogs wearing nothing but a short-sleeved t-shirt and cotton cargo pants and because the weather is so very balmy?in the middle of November-- in New England.

Bad scary is when you drive the Emerald Necklace, windows down, your elbow on the steering wheel?holding a camera in both hands so that you can take random snapshots?and they think talking on a cell phone is dangerous!

Don?t worry. It turns out that even though it is fun to take pictures of things other than my pets?I pretty much suck at it, so I won?t be indulging in this particular brand of ?rolling roulette? anytime soon.

Here?s what I?ve got for you today: a short quiz bound to shatter any misconceptions you have about Boston. Ready? Here we go.

1. True or False? Boston is nothing but red brick or white clapboard with black trim.

Answer: FALSE

2. True or False? Those Brahmins have an unhealthy obsession with ivy.

Answer: TRUE

3. True or False? People in Boston have a great mastery of the English language.

Drive SLOW-LY, you numbnut?SLOW-LEEEEEEEEEEE

Answer: *cools down* Er, FALSE

4. True or False? Signmakers were driven from this fair city and warned never to darken the streets again with their informative, helpful placards.

Answer: FALSE

So please, can we put that wretched stereotype to rest once and for all? Hell, I feel safe saying that at least 20 percent of the city has streetsigns. So there.

And, since I was driving by on it on my way to Storrow Drive-- here's a snapshot of the courtyard to the building where I take my art class.

Positively scintillating, I know. Never say I don't thrill you with my posts.

Thanks for the joy ride. Are those flowers in the last shot tulips? How strange they look blooming in the fall. I believe the lady in the photo is wearing a beret? How fitting. Next time, I get the window seat!

That neighborhood looks familiar. Is it Somerville? My dream is to one day live in a purple house. :)

Home sweet home. I love wandering through Jamaica Plain taking pictures of the grand old Victorians painted in so many colors: I saw one house painted eight different colors (and it looked GOOD!)

My sister lives in Boston. I had fun trying to find her apartment never having DRIVEN in the city before. But I must say, people were nice and helpful when I asked for directions.

Hmmm. Modesty is a virtue but surely you don't truly believe these photos to be anything but gorgeous? I can feel the quality of light and I'm almost ready to buy a plane ticket just to see what the inside of your art class looks like.

Being from Boston I miss everything about it. Thank you for the delicious photos, even though they make me more homesick, especially.....ESPECIALLY, this time of year I savor them and pretend I am there. Thanks BP, and if you are limiting photos of the brombies, photos of Boston, well lets just say you would make my day.

Oh man. I am so jealous. I have been to Boston once, when my son interviewed at Berklee, and I LOVED it. I don't think I could live there, nor any big city...but I loved it. But mostly I'm just envious of you getting to go to school. :-) But see, the thing is...it makes me smile and think "I can go to school again one day too!" THank you for sharing your witty way of seeing things, and for making me smile. As always... xx00xx
