December 28, 2009 11:09 AM- wherein I meet an owl

photo taken February 2, 2009

It was brought to my attention a few hours ago that someone I much admire reads this blog on a regular basis-- is there a word for a sudden moment where you feel both delighted and alarmed at the very same time and in the very same measure? Surely such a word exists--- if I spoke German, no doubt it would roll trippingly off the tongue (or, rather, somersault out from the tonsils seeing as it is German, after all).

Alas, I know of no such word. And, in this moment, I haven't the imagination to conjure anything up as I am deep in the swim across the sea of squam as I aim to have a new batch of offerings up for grabs a week from today.

*Excuse me a moment while I breathe into a brown paper bag*.

So-- to those of you kindhearted kindred spirits who come here to share in the slack tribulations of this most undrowsy pragmatist-- I can only share the following with perhaps more details at some future date(<--oh sistah please, we know that's a total lie):

~ Christmas was a splendid gift. T must've been visited by three ghosts of seasons past cause boy howdy did he make our days together shine. Many treats were bestowed upon my unworthy head but my faves are most definitely two old things: a carved wooden blue goose and a vintage blue handpainted sign that reads '11.40 miles to Montreal'

~ It started snowing about an hour ago and it's coming down thickly-- very pretty as we work away here at casa bp-- good thing there's a big pot of mushroom soup that I made from scratch yesterday.

~ We came home Saturday night from a screening of Avatar (more blue goodness) and there was a very large barred owl sitting in our spruce. Now, you may think I see lots of wildlife up close and personal (well, okay, maybe I do--but not like THIS!) but this was a.maz.ing. So close-- we gazed and gazed and gazed at each other until my beastly husband decided sitting in the car with the windows down staring at an owl for 20 minutes was quite enough and went into the house-- still, the owl and I communed, that is until the hounds came bounding out and in one great awesome wingspan of swoosh the owl dropped and wheeled around the spruce and disappeared into the dark woods.

It may be days before I am here again-- all depends on how the to-dos are done.

Peace out, E

got 2 cents?

Wow. I love owls. You're so lucky to live in a place where you can commune with them like that. And your words to describe it are so beautiful.

So happy to hear that you had a wonderful celebration. And owl sightings are blessings, we saw one--only from a distance--driving down our road. We stopped and turned around to go back and gaze, and as we approached we saw it lift off and disappear. A gift, but you got 20 minutes! Lucky you!

I think that is a good sign...a quiet presence watching over you as you get ready for the big launch next week. I actually trained him & sent him to you. His name is Chet & he's available for weddings & Bar Mitzvahs too.

Wasn't Avatar AMAZING!? Maybe not as amazing as a giant OWL right next to you, but still.

Eye to eye - how amazing that must have been! I've had barn owls swoop over whilst driving, and even those brief sightings have left me in total awe. Wishing you a wondrous New Year, BP. Bisous xo
