December 31, 2008 11:12 AM- la veille

There are people who think there's no such thing as inspiration. In their world, it's all about showing up at the page, or the canvas, and the work will follow.

As you well know, I am not one of those people. Not only do I rarely show up at the page or canvas unless the planets are aligned with my inner gyroscope so as to manifest a sparkling web of bright white light in a perfect veil around me, but even when I do--despite the great glittering ball of illumination-- I often lose whatever shards of an idea had been in my grasp.

Of course this is even more challenging when your husband is downstairs in his office IM'ing you about the need for webcams-- note to T: we do NOT need webcams. (NOTE: I did not respond as I might have which is to say I did not write ARE YOU INSANE? Please boost my karma account accordingly, thank you.)

Have I ever mentioned interruptions make writing nearly impossible for me?

Ignore the photo above as today, on this last day of December in 2008, the snow drops steadily in a thin mist. Beyond the outline of firs at the bottom of the field, I can see nothing but thick, grayish white light from earth to sky. After two glorious days of full on sunshine and blue skies, we are in the cocoon of snow, again.

I haven't had time to properly reflect on the year that has just passed. It was a biggie, for sure. Last winter nearly broke us in two, yet on the other end of the spectrum, last September I organized an event that was life changing for many, many people including myself. For the past week, I have been deep into the work of preparing a whole new slew of offerings for Squam Art Workshops 2009. This will keep me (and T, bless his programming heart) exceedingly busy right up until Monday morning.

Right now, I have to close down my dining room office space and return it to its true purpose as we have a tableful of folks joining us tonight. T is making a caramel chocolate bread pudding! And, it seems we will be having a rather Spanish themed evening as after a few rounds of tapas, paella shall be the centerpiece of the dining experience. (Oh, and in case you are wondering, there will be a slight bit of cinnamon in the bread pudding which, you know, keeps it in the Spanish mode). Ole!

Of course, I can't leave you without some shots of the brombie mob to hold you over til next we speak. Not sure why they all look so serious--- they have quite the life, these dogs. This morning, T took them for a big hike (he was on skis) to the top of one of the logging roads that bring you miles and miles up the mountain. Then, they had to run hard to keep up with him as he skied back down. Naturally, as I type to you, they are seriously crashed at my feet, a deep winter's sleep indeed.

To you, I wish good health, sweet dreams and a restful spirit. May 2009 bring you lots of love, laughter and deep, deep contentment.

Bonne Annee!
