February 23, 2006 5:24 PM- girl meets plow

FRIDAY MORNING UPDATE:
Oh yes, the SECOND thing I was afraid to have to face: power outtage. And, (drumroll please) this morning at 6:10 am the power went out.

Which meant:
1) that I had to plow a new area for the plow truck and move it out of the way so that
2) I could back my car up to the generator
and JUMPSTART the generator from my car (sounds easy, I know-- trust me, it wasn't)
3) check that the pilot light on the furnace had not gone out (blessed be, it had not)
4) pick my ass up from the ground where I slipped and fell (wearing slippers, sheesh! what do I expect?) twice
5) forego the shower necessary for clean hair and wear it up in a ponytail as I had to run an early am meeting with people calling in from Germany and beyond

And? I lived to tell. End of update. (At least I HOPE it is the end of update-- if a bear is on my porch when I get home, I'm heading straight to Coquette, with dogs in tow.

What was the one thing I was afraid might happen while T was away? Ah yes, the need to acquaint myself with the plow truck. And by acquaint myself, I do not mean dial a number and call the man with the plow truck. Oh la la. *peals of mirth* Ah no. No, there's only one person who would be plowing our 1.5 mile Class 6 road in the event of snow--- umhmmm, you guessed it.

Of course there are those in the household who were quite thrilled with this afternoon's snowfall.

I'm just wondering. Do you think Eddie ever asked Eva to snowplow the road? (And, do note, Eva's birthday is FEBRUARY 11. What are the odds?) Yeah, me neither.

But plow it I did, though I don't have any before photos for you cause I was too damned nervous to even think about taking pictures. So all I've got is Ruby and some shots of the road cleared by yours truly (with T on the phone the whole time talking me through it, obvs).

I believe I'll have that cocktail now, James.

got 2 cents?

Very impressive! And although it's great that you can now live secure in the knowledge that you CAN plow the drive, let's hope you never have to do it again.

Whoa! YOU drive your own snowplow? I am more impressed than ever! I used to drive the tractor on our dairy, if that gives you any idea of my expertise...going 5 mph with a stick shift the size of snowshovel handle. Really tricky, huh?

Eddie might have asked Eva to snowplow...but Eb (was that the farmhand's name?) probably would have done it for her, with Arnold navigating for him - which is why you are a superhero, doing it all yourself! I watched way too much TV growing up :)

I'm speechless! But even still, I have to comment. I hope you enjoy the feeling of being a hardy outdoors she-woman better than the feeling of irritation that could build up waiting for someone else to turn up and save you. Go she-woman!

HEAVEN!!! oooh--it looks like heaven! Well, it looks like that here in northern MN also-- except that I live in town so it's not quite as pretty. By the way--good job with the plow! In my opinion, every woman should #1) know how to plow and #2) know how to pull (and back up) a trailer. Oh--and can your dogs please, please, please come live with me?!? I love the photo of them running. Such absolute bliss! They look like they have incredible personalities. :) Happy winter to you!

First of all, we have twin plow tucks (mine is red and everything, and yes--I'm terrified to aquaint myself with it, albiet I have a much shorter driveway). Second, thank you a zillion times for reminding me that rennovating isn't the end of the world (are you sure????). Third, you completely kick ass woman! And fourth: OH MY GOD those pictures took my breath away. Esp, the first one with the hounds running. So lovely!

I miss New Hampshire. I really do miss all that snow. Really. I'm not lying. I'm glad that you lived to tell your tale! What would life be like without generators, snow, slippers (slippers in the snow), and dogs that look like they're in heaven. Have a great weekend.
