February 13, 2005 9:49 PM- sunday pretty sunday

Today is my mother's birthday. She is in the hospital since Wednesday but hopes to be released tomorrow. We had a long chat yesterday in the course of which I told her I had a blog. (It's only a matter of time until she asks me to give her the address, but of course, I never can. We don't have that kind of relationship. But it is very cute how internet savvy she is. She surfs like a Kahuna). She was so intrigued and asked me all kinds of questions. She is very political and reads political blogs regularly. Thank god there's no chance I'd ever be linked to one of those.

This afternoon I took the dogs for a walk up to the job site. We parked out by the road and walked in (about a mile). On our way in we passed a little waterfall/creek. Look at that tiny little branch holding up all that weight in ice . . .

The job site is thrilling. Unless of course I was the carpenter who had to brush off/shovel all the SNOW every freaking day to get any work done.

Aren't you glad the battery on my camera ran out?

got 2 cents?

Not at all glad! It is so exciting to watch Soliden take shape -- and I'm sure it's even more so for you. It's not possible for you to take too many pictures, of Soliden or anything else. Hope your mom is feeling much better.

this site kicks ass. the way the events in your life are unfolding is positively interesting. it's so visual, so linear, and so full of promise. -building a home in the middle of winter, watching in your own photography as it breaks through the snow into the spring- it's like time-lapse film slowed down to real-time- and the displaced magic hidden in that speed is standing in front of you like a unicorn in the woods. ...and maybe there's a centaur and lions with neatly combed manes discussing proust. ...that one got away from me i'm afraid. terribly sorry.

Wow- it is really taking shape... looks like a real house! I haven't told my mom about my blog at all- I don't think she really knows what they are anyway. I just think it would make her worry if I posted something about being sad or something. Hope your mom gets to go home- nothing like resting in your own bed.

The house is really moving along! I also hope your mother is out of the hospital today. I can't believe you told her about the blog and that she knows about blogs and that you don't think she'll track you down! You are brave. I told my father once about my blog (for cover), in an email, and I live in fear that he will actually figure things out one day and check it. Don't think it will happen, because he doesn't understand the blog thing, but I do worry a little.

I'm sorry your mother has not been well. I hope she has a nice birthday. That's so great that she surfs like a Kahuna--my mom does too!

Wow, I'm impressed. By both your mom's surfing abilities and the progress on Soliden. My mom can turn on the computer and type. She's more of a hand written letter kind of gal.

Gorgeous ice photos, and your house is really taking shape! (I'm sure it seems much slower to you.) Best wishes to your mother for a speedy recovery.

I hope your mother is doing better. Your house looks great. I love watching new houses get built. (I'm addicted to "This Old House"). Please post more photos so we can track the progress.

Ah BP, what beautiful pictures! I love the first two particularly, the ones of the (sort of) icicles. And how exciting for you to see your house taking shape! It'll be so funny for you in years to come to look back at these pictures, when you're all nice and warm inside. Just curious ... Why did you tell your mother you have a blog, if you weren't going to tell her the URL? I haven't told any of my family: I'm pretty sure they'd just poo-poo it. And my father would pick holes in my writing - ex-English teachers are the worst, I tell you! Is your mother not absolutely frantic to have a look? I would be. In fact, my nosiness would keep me up ALL NIGHT Googling for it!
