February 11, 2005 7:09 AM- present day

Yesterday we got dumped with snow. There's still a foot of it shoved up against the deck door so I can't let the dogs out that way. If it wasn't so dark out I'd get some pics but as it is, I stayed home from work yesterday (with no electricity for some of it). I need to get out there to shovel my car in order to get to work before noon . . .

Today is my birthday. I was gobsmacked to come down this morning to find this e-mail:

(Of course I had to take out all the real name references).

Dear FutureMe,
It's a Thursday in May and I am here in Santa Fe. It is a most marvelous day and my only regret is a hemorroid that is preventing me from going to the gym and working out. My hope is that I will accomplish some writing on this trip. Perhaps break through with (novel in progress) to a new place. The contract for (publisher) just came through so next week you have a bit of a push to get everything done. But I know you will and I know the book will be sweet. Here's crossing my fingers that you sell a million+ copies and can make some great dollars to free you to a life of writing on the 82.

I want you to know that I believe in you and I want you to know that I am proud of how much you are juggling right now as you make this transition into this next phase of your life. May you be writing plays that are put on in (town name). May you have finished (novel in progress) and have it be bought joyfully and agented by a wonderful agent. May you be free from (company name) and focusing your life energies on bringing forward your gifts to the world. May the friends you have met blogging be still true and supportive.

May there be beauty before you.
May there be beauty behind you.
May there be beauty above you.
May there be beatufy below you.
May you walk in beauty.

Peace to you, (real name). Be confident. Be kind.

I do not even remember writing this or where I found this website-- but I have to tell you, it was such a kick this morning, I suggest you send one to yourself.

At the time I wrote this, I had only been blogging for a few months-- so it kind of amazes me that I had already made connections that I felt so strongly about that I would mention them here. Now, of course, it seems so obvious. It's a funny thing to do-- write into the future. I hope you try it. Oh yes, do notice-- no use of the word "AND"!!!

got 2 cents?

O BP!!!! Happiest of birthdays to your future, present and past selves! i'm so blessed to have "connected" with you and you're in my thoughts daily... you know that! May the next year deliver on your every wish and may your next birthday find you snapping pix of the snow gently blanketing Soilden, plotting your third trip to Paris this year, warming your hands over a huge publishing contract, laughing about all the hideous work-a-day-ness long behind you and nearly forgotten, and surrounded by those you love best... the furry and the not so furry... healthy and glowing with all that is good and right and yours! I adore you!!!

Happy Birthday, to my ever present fairyblogmother! What a lovely letter to yourself - I remember your Santa Fe trip! And your hemmorroid as well :) Here's hoping that this year is a year of wonderfully delicious good things, that you will find your path gently curving towards Soliden and peace. Thank you for always being one of my dearest bloggy friends.

happy birthday BP! Ya know I've written letters to myself before..and one time in a grief group we wrote one to ourselves from our deceased loved one that we were grieving about..we were guided by our class leader to write as if it was in the person's hand and voice, not ours. Then she sent us the letter months later and amazingly it was just like getting a note from my mom and at precisely the very MOMENT that I really needed it. It's quite a lovely exercise and experience to go thorugh..writing to the future.

Oh, this post made me laugh...because until I read it, I'd COMPLETELY forgotten that when I came across the 'futureme' site, I, too, sent myself an email...only I have no recollection of when I sent it (so have no idea when it will show up) or even what I said. Hmmm, might be time to do another one... :) HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BP!!! xoxox (And 'hee hee!' re the Santa Fe reference!) :)
