February 09, 2005 7:20 PM- doc, how about heroin?

Holy God. Have I ever posted twice in one day?

But, as we all know, when Our Lady of the Constipated goes live we of the Self-Absorbed will be in attendance.

And she did go live.

And we were in attendance.

And, JESUS-- could there be any more drug commercials? This on top of my recent foray into the help wanted section where nine out of ten companies are pharmaceutical companies AND on top of that the leading story (that preceded that of Our Lady of the Constipated) was about the government's little math problem with drugs for Medicare costing 80 kazzillion more than they said it would.

*sits* God. I have a headache. Aspirin? Anyone?

Really, I am not kidding-- I haven't watched a network "news" program* in years and frankly I was a bit horrifed to see how fast Blade Runner is coming to life. Didn't anyone else think it was positively creepy how Peter Jennings' head was all floating in an orange glow? (And btw, just between us-- don't make this public or anything, but I went to college with Terry Moran (and, you know, danced with him-- I would say partied but he was too busy gazing at himself to ever snort the coke) and for the record, in case any of you out there harbor any lustful fantasies about "news" reporters . . he is a Loooooooser).

So-- you might think I am drunk. I am so not. I think I'm flipping out-- the DRUGS. THE DRUGS. People--- do you see these commercials??! Five commercials in a row-- for drugs I "should ask my doctor about." One even offered to send me a free sample which, as you all know, is standard operating procedure for getting kids hooked on drugs . . .

Let me just share with you my vision of the future--- living at Soliden. Off-grid. Hooked up with the true conversation of the universe: blogvilla. With no need for pharmaceuticals of any kind.

They make legal that which you can only buy from them. They make illegal those natural substances you can grow yourself.

The only saving grace in all this? I hear tell that Michael Moore's next film is on the pharmaceutical industry.

And now I will shut up (aren't you ever so glad I never post twice a day?) with one last comment. Annemarie Colbin's Food and Healing. I highly recommend it.

Oh, and, I have completely used up my quota of "ands" in this post. Next post? Will be written entirely without the word "and."

*My source of televised news and entertainment is Jon Stewart.

got 2 cents?

. . . you are fabulous . . . and I am grateful for the tv update as I haven't seen tv in a really long time and hearing it second hand was just what I needed: its all still insane :) I am glad you are starting to see things differently about your work . . . I have been amazed at your tenacity, even as my heart has broken for you, even as I have cheered your valinace in creating Soliden . . . you are a gorgeous hunk of womanhood and if we never get the chance to party with sage, margaritas and wild tales, then I know there is no god . . . :)

All hail The Daily Show! I love the little snippets that I can get of it here. I was also horrified the last time I was back in the US and watched FOX News -- how appalling! And that's where most people get their 'news' from. And don't get me started on pharmaceuticals; I'm already in rant mode.

It makes you wonder just how many people you run into throughout the day are pumped up on something. Wait...should I have said, "pumped up?" hee, I'm so third grade. :)

I don't miss commercials at all. I don't know what we'll do when we move back! Personally, having worked in the health care field, I can't wait to see Michael Moore's next film. I bet the whole industry is sweating.

Hey BP. While I agree with you that the advertising is overdone, let's not forget that these companies SAVE LIVES every day. I know, because I work for one of them. I struggle with some of the same demons you do (dealing with corporate America), and I recognize these companies are out to make money...But, their products (some of their products) make sick people well, and able to enjoy life. Our Lady of the Constipated is a good example...she's shared with us her struggle and her ability to come back with the help of drugs. (I don't want to be a stick in the mud here...I just wanted to say there's some good mixed in with the bad.)

I'm not sure I can even make it through a comment without using the word "and". I rarely watch the evening news, but I do recall thinking there were an awful lot of drug ads the last time I did watch. Can't believe I missed Dooce on the TV.
