my 2 cents

the company

Another Canadian film-- well, sort of, Robert Altman directed but it is set in Toronto-- I think. Either way, that's of no consequence. If you love dance, particularly ballet, you will love this film. It is so sweet and quiet and perfectly balanced.

One interesting note, Neve Campbell did much, if not all, of the choreography and all her own dancing. My favorite part was her romance. I thought the way they handled it was exactly right-- no sex scenes-- everything implied, subtle and dead-on. That kind of confident filmmaking turns me on.

Mostly I just enjoyed getting a fly-on-the-wall's perspective on what it must be like to be part of a dance company. It felt authentic. I wasn't crazy about the big dance piece they wre working on with crazy director guy. Maybe that was the whole point, I don't know. But I really didn't like it and wished they could have had a crazy director guy but a really beautiful and important dance instead of the stupid crapoloa he created.

Helas--- overall, I very much recommend it if, as I say, dance is your thing.
