February 27, 2009 9:37 PM- swamp thing! it's alive!

Careful now, people. Step back. Don't crowd the Swamp Thing. She may seem harmless, but she once bit off the nose of an old crone that got too close, so consider yourself forewarned.

Yes. She's alive.

After a week with no internet Hey! Let's try and get some work done at the local coffee shop, m'kay? That should be fun, non? and a crippled foot that had me discussing surgery options with my doctor.

ME: Doc, I think it's getting worse. I have to curl all the toes of my left foot under the sole in order to hobble around. It looks like I went out on a bender and decided to try out the ancient art of foot binding and only got one side done before I passed out. Maybe it's time to talk about other options.

DOC: Well, we can stop the treatments now and you can just live with the pain.

ME: * Two days later and I am STILL trying to come up with a witty riposte for that statement. It stunned me like a shot of liquid hydrogen to the frontal lobe. I'm still numb.*

DOC: Or, we could keep on with the treatments and hope they make it feel better, you know, someday. Of course, there's always surgery.

ME: YES! Surgery! Let's do that. Pull out the bad nerve. Sew me back up! Good as new! Just like in Emerald City when they put the Scarecrow back to rights. *singing* Snip Snip, here, Stitch Stitch there . . la la whatever the words are . . in the jolly old land of Oz."

DOC: It would be day surgery, of course. And you'd wear a boot for oh, two to three weeks and then of course, you couldn't walk for about 2-3 months.

ME: *crickets*

DOC: You would probably want to think about this since you would have the dog situation-- you walk them 3-4 miles a day? *shakes head* oh, no-- there would be none of that.

ME: *swings my foot back up to the examining table and lets it drop with a loud thwack* Alrighty then, Doc. Fire up another injection. We're just gonna keep on keeping on . . .

But hey-- don't let me make you think I've been all cabin fevered and cranktastic and filled with the spirit of some disembodied pissant who decided to take a sojourn in this earthly vessel of mine. Oh no-- look at me with the hunch-y shoulders! That was an outtake from T's efforts to photograph me on Sunday.

Needless to say, Henry and Daisy were quite disappointed to see that the photo below was not chosen as they did their gamine best to make it into the spotlight.

Mostly I came into this deserted wasteland of a blog to say THANK YOU!!

Your comments just buoy my spirits more than you can ever know. And I LOVED Beth's discovery that SLACK-ASS-WENCH is indeed the matching acronym for SAW. How perf was that?!

I will be back soon-- MARCH is almost here, people!! And surely I will be able to sit still long enough to share some stories with you then-- surely!

got 2 cents?

Ouch, poor thing. No internet for a week AND foot pain? You're dealing with it much more gracefully than I would be. Take care of yourself, and those pups!

ha! those dogs are incorrigible camera hogs. Oh dear poor foot. That is not fun. But BP you look quite smokin, esp in the last pic where you have if I may say a slightly come hither look even though Daisy is trying to usurp you by giving what appears to be an x ray stare.

OMGosh, I didn't realize the foot was as bad as cut-it-open and pull-stuff-out. Yikes. I would stick with the injections for awhile but if you need surgery, then ... Poor doggies. Poor bp...

I absolutely adore you. And damn, so sorry about the foot. Hypericum is really great for nerve pain. Have you looked into that? Also acupuncture--but I'm pretty sure you'd have explored that option already?

Oh, E. I know you didn't ask for our opinion, but I've never been good at holding back in this incarnation anyway. I'm sure the pups will understand if you have sx. Talk it over with them. It's only a couple months and if you do it now, you'll be recovered b/4 the weather is really nice for long walks. This is your life, babe. You are miserable, hobbling around. Take care of self first so that you can better nuture your loved ones. Ahhh. There. My two cents packed full of love and concern for you. XO

Those puppies of yours are making me LAUGH. Daisy is oh so nonchalant, nosing her way into your photo, and then the boys come along, they can't help it either! You are the loveliest swamp thing ever. I am so sorry about your foot, hope you find the solution very soon. I don't like to think of you in pain! And did I mention that you're gorgeous? I love the last picture of you best. I would stick it on my fridge in a moment and blow kisses at you everyday.

Happy March! Good luck with your foot too, and you've probably already done this, but in case not - if you have a chance to see a sports doc take it, they often have more quickly-back-to-usability solutions than regular orthopedists.

oy, foot pain sucks. and so does the long healing process after surgery. although it is wintery and by the time you recover, it will be warm. but. in lieu of that, as you well know, acupuncture and herbs. it might not be a quick fix, but i'm fairly certain it can make a difference and if you do have surgery, it will help with the recovery process too. let's hope that march passes the lion and gives us the lamb, because i'm done with winter!! xoxo
