November 25, 2009 10:39 AM- let your fingers do the shopping
We interrupt this scintillating exploration of the meaning of mice in my life (I will return to the
subject as I have muchly enjoyed your comments and insights and have some additional
commentary to make--consider yourself warned--) to bring you my response to the
impending American nightmare commonly known as Black Friday.
If BF is one of your favorite days of the year and BF fills your heart with gladness, well, all I
can say is-- this is a striking difference between us. But! I like friends who are different-- I
do not seek to surround myself with people who all think and talk and shop as I do. So, feel
free to kick up some gravel in the mall parking lot on my behalf--- it's all good.
Now I'm sure some of you right about now are thinking, "hang on there, bp. Tomorrow's
Thanksgiving, shouldn't you be writing a post about gratitude and not skipping over to the
whole capitalist spin on national holidays?"
Well dear reader(s), rest assured that I shall indeed throw my two cents into the blessed
thanksgiving pot-- it will just take me a bit more time and right now I am scribbling to you in
between site review checks as Mr. Code Monkey sits next to me working on one of my web
projects (alas, no-- it is neither an upgrade to bp or SAW, I'm afraid. Something else
entirely). And, for me, talking about shopping is kind of an easy, non-personal thing whereas
settling into a place of open heart to the incredible powers around us that bring so much
light and goodness to our days, well that there needs a bit more sacred focus and not so
much with me perched on a stool tapping intermittently between shouts of, "no! more
cowbell!"
Onward--ho.
So, in honor of those of you who actually do Christmas shopping and seek to reduce time spent under the soul-sucking sheen of flourescent lights, I present to you some of my
favorite Etsy boutiques and, have restricted myself to only twelve as homage, of sorts, to
that partridge tree carol. (See? See<--- how much of a giver I am? I don't even like
Christmas and I am bringing carols to your ears . . .)
And, I must say it is HARD for me to share some of the listings below. I feel like Whoopi
Goldberg in Ghost when the nuns are
trying to tear the check out of her clenched fingers. She wants to make the
donation, but she doesn't really want to make the donation. I want to share these treasures, but I want to keep them my secrets, too. Some might not be secrets and you will
already know them, but I feel quite certain, that some you won't-- all are faves of mine. *cue sleigh bells*
On the first day of Christmas, my bp gave to me . . .
1. how I do love to pretend LOVELY SWEET WILLIAM
2. can't have too much fairytale ephemera NINA GILBERT
3. not only can I not resist a double negative, I also seem to be addicted to fingerless
gloves and all things referencing my beloved moniker COQUELICOT SALON
4. yes, more fingerless gloves-- how better to eat rice krispie treats? SECOND SEED
5. I know that I already professed my love for Pixie yesterday, but she really is one of my fave shops and
you should totally stop there, but don't think about getting the original "possibility" cause I
already snapped it up PIXIE
CAMPBELL
6. do not think for a moment that Pixie has my best interests at heart. She is to blame for
my awareness of this heavenly caramel manufacturer and the reason my ass is not at all
grateful LE BELLA
CARAMELLA
7. speaking of sweets SWEET
NELLIE
8. again, you can't have this particular one-of-a-kind jewelry as it lives here with me, but
happy girl has LOADS of other goodies to make your heart sing KELLY BARTON
9. sometimes I wonder if people who come to my house --and see lovely cards tucked all
about that tell me marvelous things-- imagine I am either a) in love with myself, or b)
certifiably cukoo. what they don't know is I have a friend who is all about magic whispers of
support & encouragement SWIRLY
GIRL
10. you don't really think I keep all my energies up without any help do you? MAZED AS A TOAT
11. Jess came up to me at SAW and said, "oh my gosh, your shirt is all faded" to which I
replied, "uh, yeah, that's what happens when you wear something 365 days a year" JESSICA GREENE
12. seriously, love birds wearing orange hats? what else would greet you when you walk in
my door? CREATIVE
THURSDAY
Bisous, E

I seriously do not participate in Black Friday. I am vaguely considering hitting my local Michaels on Saturday, only because a certain yarn is on sale...but that's it. Now I'm off to sort through these lovely links...when I should be cleaning house! posted on: November 26
