February 22, 2009 2:41 PM- sunday, sundry sunday

Yesterday morning, my husband left with his first girlfriend and his first wife to go camping. Me? I'm here with four dogs*, but, since there's bound to be someone who takes me literally

(that will also be one of the disclaimers I add to this site whenever it is I get around to adding an FAQ and disclaimers to this site-- probably right around the time I put up a candid photograph of me that I spent hours and hours getting just right so it looked, you know, candid-- under which I'll type, Hi. My name is ------ and this is my website. As, if you are going to have readers who take you literally, it's probably a good idea to upfront and direct with them. Except that literal readers shall enter this site at their peril. The only way to navigate this drivel is between the lines people-- between the lines!)

I should remind you that my husband went from 6th - 12th grade with one friend (the one I call the first girlfriend) and was freshman roommates and then had a business after college with the one I call the first wife.

Phew.

See? I should've just left it all alone and let you all imagine that T is up at his cabin in Maine with two female loves of his life-- so much easier-- because all of that is really beside the point.

The point being: Me + four dogs!!
(Good thing I know my way around a cuddle).

THINGS TO SHARE

If you have already seen my post on this at fb, my apologies-- but if you haven't, oh my.

As you know, Bernie Berlin is one of the most remarkable people.

Actually, there really is no other word for her than angel. She is an angel. And if you know all the work she has done over the past eight years to save animals from horrible situations and get them medical care and a loving home and, how she has raised enough donations to build a genuine animal shelter on her property-- well, if you know all of that then good luck watching the video (above) without sobbing your brains out--

A few weeks ago I made mention of the fact that I was going to get two chairs reupholstered-- you know, in my continuing endeavor to finish decorating this house which, given how far I've come, is progressing rather nicely. I fully expect there to be paint on the all the walls and doors hanging from every doorjamb well before the caterers arrive for my 90th birthday party!

(Never let it be said I don't set goals and deadlines--)

Anyway, last summer I found exactly what I wanted on ebay and lucky for me, the seller was in Vermont-- a mere 3 hours away from me. So we scheduled for me to come in September as, I do a LOT of buying online, but there is no way I am choosing antique linens without touching and seeing them-- plus, that's the fun of it, non? Of course, last September, as you might remember-- I was somewhat engaged in other activities and it was only last week that I finally got in the car to drive across the Northeast Kingdom in the dead of winter.
(NOTE: highly unrecommended).

However, despite the yuckstew driving weather, it was a spectacular trip not least because Christina Rosalie, the Vermont goddess herself, came and met me for the afternoon where we drank coffee and I shook my head in amazement at her amazingness.

Also spectacular was rifling through the astonishing stash of vintage linens at Wendy's place. Oh. My. Word. If hand woven, nineteenth century flax is your thing (and I must admit, it is one of my chief weaknesses) then do not bring your first-born child with you or it is likely it will be left in exchange for a hessian grain sack.

Needless to say, if you are like my niece (who upon leaving an antiques store stopped mid-step and reflected thusly, "why would anyone pay money for old stuff?") well then be glad of your genetic inoculation to such lures.

Me? All I can say it is lucky I don't like road trips because otherwise I would be in such deep trouble. So I was heartened to see I am not alone in my obsession.

Now, a photograph of your brain after reading this blog . . .

* my three plus Vic, of course!

It takes a very special person to be around all of those animals and not take every single one of them home. I'd be total mush with every single pair of sad eyes!

I love animals. I worked in a dog shelter while in high school. It made me a more compassionate person. Although I am allergic to most fur it didn't stop me from hugging them everyday. I have a maltese and he shares his treats with me... such unconditional love! Dude, i so have a "first husband" too! : ) My pen pal(since i was 14) from Australia. Love this blog! : )
