December 15, 2008 1:50 AM- keep calm and rock on

It's a bit strange that I am using this site to keep a travel journal of sorts, but seeing as I'm not keeping any kind of normal journal while I'm out here and seeing that I wouldn't have any record of Santa Fe or Paris if I hadn't jotted down some scribbles and posted a couple of snapshots I'm gonna go ahead and use this forum like it was my living room circa 1972 with dinner guests being forced to watch slides from my recent trip to the world's largest ball of twine-- apologies for the tedium here-- you're gonna have to humor me.

Yesterday, we headed into downtown L.A. to check out an indie craft fair. It was pretty cool and we scored some really great pieces. As someone who had recently organized an event and know only too well how much goes into bringing it all together, I was duly impressed and glad to meet one of the two organizers. Below is Adam, who put this on with his girlfriend, Sonja.

I really liked the posters he was selling, particularly the one that riffed off the ubiquitous "Keep Calm and Carry On" we've all seen everywhere all over the design blogs these days.

Another kind of cool thing that kept happening there was that I would come upon a booth and recognize the work and realize it was because I had seen this artist's website before-- hardly surprising, and yet, because I wasn't expecting it, it was kind of trippy and I went all girl scout on their unsuspecting asses with my squeals of, "like, oh my god, I totally go to your website and know your work, like oh my god." I'm sure they were really impressed with me. Especially this fine woman from Portland, Oregon, Elizabeth Soule.

But lucky for me, she was really nice and didn't mock me, you know, at least to my face.

Okay, now for what's going really wrong out here: THE FOOD.

People, I had plans. Big plans. Lettuce, yoga and lots of exercise all figured largely in my plans. Instead, what am I doing each night? EATING crazy, crazy amounts of homemade pizza and pasta carbonara and desserts and DAMN--- this is not at all what is supposed to be happening in in L.A. Damn it.

Where is my anorexic BFF when I need her?

But Swirl tells me that's just the weekend and that things will be "lighter" (her word) this week. Yeah, right-- like I'm gonna believe that. My stomach hurts just thinking about the way she plans to stuff me like a Christmas goose.

Anyway-- veddy tired--- also fun today? Farmer's market with fresh flowers (pale pink ranculas!!), beautiful veggies as far as the eye could see--- more with the sunshine and blooming roses. A big walk down to the beach, some shopping on Montana and an evening yoga class to-- get this-- club hall dance music.

It's wacky out here, folks.

got 2 cents?

It doesn't sound wacky at all. It sounds perfectly marvelous.

Hmm, this is strange. Usually during this season when I come here I think oh it is so very mild where I am. Today I think - blooming? Roses? Sunshine? It is very cold here. Sounds like fabulous fun and you have to eat everything on holiday - it doesn't count. Especially if you do yoga - I mean...

Sorry for that...couldn't resist. Thanks for bringing some of the wet stuff with you, BP...it's like the proverbial manna for us here...haven't had rain in, like, forever.
