July 28, 2008 12:15 PM- for T, who misses bp,
with wet dogs and ladder

This weekend a mysterious box arrived for me. Inside was

(oh wait, Lizardek you have to cover your eyes for this part)

The Transformation Game.

Although there was no card, I knew immediately that it was from my sister Christine because she had been telling me about it when she was up here visiting. Right away, I called my niece, Kate (who also received a copy of the game).

Me: Hey! Guess what? I got one, too so you don't have to bring yours next time you visit.

Kate: cool.

Me: I'm so excited. I want to play it right now.

Kate: Will (T) play it with you?

Me: (turns to T) Kate wants to know if you would actually play The Transformation Game with me.

T: Oh, I'm a transformer.

Squee. So we played and it was awesome and I can't wait to play it again. Hey, wanna come over and play it with me?

Okay Lizardek, you can uncover your eyes now-- I know how this new age-y stuff makes your skin crawl. See how SENSITIVE I am?

And now that your eyes are open, check this out:

(via Jinny. Thanks, Jinny! I loved it.)

Right now, as I type to you there is the most gorgeous breeze coming in the window and washing over me-- so lovely and lots of sunshine, which GOD ALMIGHTY we have been needing and for the record, I am a sun worshipper. I need the sun in such a profound way. It feeds me directly like a battery charger, damn. Love it. (Hence the fabulous mood I am in? Hmm, my transparency knows no bounds).

Since I am bringing you into present moment, here is the current state of my studio:

And, the current state of my desk from where I am typing to you (oh how meta):

Another possible reason for my enhanced lightness of being is that I crossed a mighty barrier this weekend; I painted a room all on my own*.

And lo, did Hell freeze over.

Okay, so I hear you. You're making some comment about, wow must be tough when two of the walls are freaking windows-- yeah, yeah-- but you must know I also put two coats of paint on the ceiling and there were some walls to do as well:

And, I know it doesn't look like much but it took me from 1pm - 7:30 pm on Saturday to do this and it is a big deal for me as I was not even a moderately helpful helper to T when he painted rooms. I would whine and complain about how my wrist hurt when we were not even 15 minutes into the work. Wah wah wah. A veritable older cousin of Violet Beauregarde was I.

I think a big part of it was just thinking I couldn't do it "right" which triggers my immediate shut-down mechanism. If I told you how low my threshold for frustration was you would have the right to mock me with impunity as I think 3-year olds have greater ability to manage the struggle of learning how to do something new. So, now that I am filled with my great sense of accomplishment-- AM PAINTER, HEAR ME ROAR!-- I've already moved onto the next project:

In case you are wondering-- the color on the left was too bright, the one in the middle was too brown, so we mixed them together and got the color above the door which we both like and is going to be what I paint on this area-- tonight! Am on a roll, baby!

Well, um, let's see now-- I've lived here how many years now? Are those four fingers you are holding up? Yeah, well-- okay, so it's taken me a while to get my, er confidence?

In other news-- on our walk today the dogs got thoroughly, inordinately, wet and muddy and were banished to the back porch to dry off.

Henry: Pleeeeeeeeeease let me in. The porch is hard and dry. I want my soft bed.

Me: No, you're wet and covered in mud-- go dry off.

Henry: (keening wail)

Daisy: Woman, you have no heart. How can let him just cry like this?

Daisy: There, there-- it's gonna be okay. She's a mean, old hag-- but I'm here for you.

Needless to say, there are now two wet dogs at my feet happily snoring away. Am a PAINTER! and? a PUSHOVER!

So, a bit of a here, there and everywhere-- to be sure. But hey, just don't say I never bring you flowers.

_____________
*Full Disclaimer: T did come in and apply the line to the tops of the wall where it meets the ceiling as I can't quite do that without a bit of a waver and shake--and his skill does give it the finished, "polished" look--

And, fyi, you can also find The Transformation Game here at amazon if that interests you---

Oh and LASTLY, anticipating the inevitable-- WHERE IS OLLIE? Oliver was quite happily ensconced under the porch but has since joined us since holy hell-- have I been writing this post for the last 30 minutes? Jeezum.

Time to get back to work--wait, no! Hey! It's LUNCHTIME!

got 2 cents?

I would love to say something witty or deep but all I can come up with is: drool, how beautiful your life is, sigh.

Elizabeth, What is the color you painted in that room? I'm looking to do a blue in one of my rooms and I really like that color. I always put off painting so I'm VERY impressed that you got all of that done in one day! Would you want to come to NC and paint some for me?! :-)

oh melissa, compliments will get you EVERYwhere!1 I would come to NC anytime, happily. (Especially happily in the dead of winter . .) The color there is called "Pale Smoke" and it is a Benjamin Moore paint.

I soooo wanna come over and play the Transformation game with ya! How intriguing a board game! Do you feel evolved and stuff afterward? Good work on learning a new skill and triumphing over your apprehension; the room looks great! Of late, I've been acting like I've only a few months to live, trying to learn as much as I can. It's insane. At Michael's yesterday, I actually had to resist the invitation to a cake decorating class like a recovering addict, and remind myself that I'm already committed to crocheting, knitting, a 9 wk on-line writing class, and very soon painting at SAW (and therafter). Jeepers. Cake-decorating, don't be so upset; we'll make friends soon.

Best kind of bouquet ever! I love how you have not a single white wall. Those are my favorite kinds of houses :) And is that a shade of red or orange? It's hard to tell from the distance and with the way the shadows fall. Either way it looks like it is going to turn out nicely.

Har! I'll tell my mom to check it out, and will do so myself after we get back home. Kudoes on the painting! This is the first chance at a computer in a week...I'm totally in withdrawal. But my brother's keyboard is German and the keys all stick and so that is all for now! Paris says HELLO, by the way. It misses you!!
