June 26, 2008 9:09 AM- thank you, Andra!!!!

Here's a job I would really suck at: photo stylist.

How do I know this? Well, the irony here-- and my life is nothing if not plein d'ironie (in fact, you know how in feng shui each person has an elemental substance that defines them? For instance, my husband's is metal (think very, very stubborn) and I was told that mine is air (go on, feign surprise), but I'm thinking that's not quite right and my element is more likely irony ---

Whoa-- digress much?

Allow me a restart-- a mulligan, if you will.

Out of the blue, my dear friend Andra sent me this doll--

a doll that she made with her own two hands and her one very vibrant imagination.

I absolutely love it and have exercised great restraint in not carrying it with me room to room so that I can gaze upon it no matter where I am. Naturally, I wanted to share it with you all as what is more inspiring than seeing someone else's artistic creation? So I set about taking some photographs of my darling doll only to find that not a single shot I took did her justice.

Not a single one.

Which is a funny thing-- since Andra is teaching at SAW in September and I have given her so much grief about the photos she submitted, as they don't represent her work at all well. I have seen her work up close and personal and it is fabulous, inspring and delightful--- I wanted people who didn?t know her or her work to get a good sense of what magic they are in for when they take her class.

And then, yesterday-- I try to capture the magic of this sweetest creation and cannot for the life of me bring the 3-dimension of it to you. Oh well-- guess you're going to have to use your imagination-- here was my final effort in desperation-- I call it the "art shot."

Um, sure-- I hear you-- glad I have a day job, non?

got 2 cents?

Yeah, nothing against photo stylists who snap inanimate objects, but how many people can capture the essence of dogs like you? Whether yours are being coy or playful or introspective or wily, you get them, like that hilarious shot of Daisy doing the Joker impression. Too funny. All I'm saying is, don't dismiss the photo skill in that, deary.

There are lots of jobs I would suck at...and photo stylist would also be one of those. Love your new doll, btw...

It doesn't really suck. There's nice shadow in the creases and folds of her dress and crown. You can see the delicate stitching perfectly. What a little beauty.
