January 03, 2008 11:29 AM- coping methods

UPDATE the second: Looks like the Internet has thawed. Have a great weekend!

UPDATED to ADD: Experiencing technical difficulties (yes, Lizardek, pictures won't load) that may/may not be resolved once the icy grip of this freezing miserable endless winter storm has loosened its hold on our collective souls. Til then--provided we have a)decided not to enjoy the soporific effects of cyanide, b)gotten the truck--which only drives backward now that the transmission is completely shot--towed up to the mechanic, c)put this most miserable chapter of homesteading behind us.

---------------------------------------

ME: When I see a house where someone has strung faux icicles across their porch I laugh (maniacally, sure?but it?s still laughter, non?)

OLIVER: Snow? What snow? I see only a beach with blue, blue water. And sand. Lots of soft, warm sand. And dogs with no collars?everywhere, just roaming about free to dig in the thick, endless sand.

HENRY: Do not struggle against what is. Rather, tune into your inner guide and see what can be learned from what you have drawn into your physical reality.

HENRY: Be one with the stillness. Be one with the cold.

DAISY: Personally? I say get your head as close as you possibly can to the heat without lighting yourself on fire. And, you know, leave some room for others.

got 2 cents?

I hope you're planning a vacation somewhere in the tropics. Maybe mid-February? Yikes. Enough is enough. Keep laughing.

Funny how you have ALL of the snow and we have NONE. Wait, did I say funny? I meant PECULIAR. Also, 2 of your photos won't load for me. Woe!

Or maybe that was what you meant by technical difficulties, yes? crud

Love, love the blue of that door. And yes, it is so cold here, my hair is clumping like icicles themselves, as if we could just snap them off like twigs. Eh, I wanted to try short some time soon anyway.

I'm with Molly on the beautiful blue floor. The Great Plains have been f&*!@ing cold too. But the beauty of our bizarre weather is we're to get above 60 later this week. Of course next week it'll be 20 below.

If it makes you feel any better, it was 9 degrees here in Tennessee this morning! And to your credit, even if you hate it, you make it look beautiful and cozy :~)

The weather guy here in Minneapolis just said that we are going to have a warm up. For the next 7 days the temps will be in the upper 20's and mid 30's. For us in the upper mid west, this is considered shorts and sweater weather, oh yes and grilling weather too. Yes, I suppose we are a very strange bunch up here. But we always have a big thaw in January, this would be it. I am sure we have not escaped the frigid grip of ole man winter, he will return with nasty temps and more snow. BP, you'll probably think me crazy, but I love homesteading, what I wouldn't give to be in your shoes. Well except for the drives into Boston, long drives for work, not so attractive. Hang in there, there has to be some redeaming qualities of your little patch of earth. I agree with otter, you do make it look easy.

I won't say it, really, I won't. I won't tell you it was 70 here yesterday...oooooooopppppss, sorry. Ok, if this makes you feel better, it's been overcast all damn day long, not a speck of freaking sunshine at all, and tomorrow rain is forecasted. Freaking rain. Again! I can only say, that BP, you DO winter and snow and your perfectly lovely home in the wilds of New England so well though, you're GOOD at it, I mean where would the Internet be without your pictures of what appears to be the start of an ice dam on your roof and your frozen pupsicles on the porch? I ask you - where would we all be? Besides, you've a January Thaw coming your way for a brief respite - I hear it's hitting Wisconsin next week with 40 degrees and rain.

I would have a serious problem if all those dogs were lying around me - I'd be down there snuggling with them all the damn day long and I'd get nothing done. Warm, furry, cuteness. *sigh*

keep that woodstove burnin'...but still, it all seems deeply romantic. Oh, just to have a little snow. It's cold enough for snow here but raining and so damp my bones seem to have been replaced by those of an arthritic granny. those dogs could have their own film - such expressive range (esp ol's ears)

Icicles, stillness, cold. Here I sit with an icepack around my neck in a futile bid to cool down. If I only I could dip my toes for just a moment in one of those photos. Those dogs! Marvelous and photogenic, as always. take care, g xo
