May 06, 2007 12:32 PM- seven things

Perhaps, more easily translated into seven deadly sins-- but, whatever. I have been tagged by Miss Punkin Card Company herself and directed to list out seven things about myself.

In the interest of further delaying the tasks glaring at me from my desk here, I shall obey this demand forthwith. Allons-y!

1.
I do not have children
I do not have ailing, aging parents that I care for on a daily basis
I work from home
my job is supposed to be part-time
I do laundry (maybe) once a month*
I?m an infrequent (if passionate) cook
I am not a Girl Scout leader, community leader, or town selectman---
AND YET I am crazy busy.
Busy. All. The. Time. Please, someone, explain this to me.

2. We live in a solar home. I have been asked a few times now to please share details of off-grid living. I feel certain that I will, one of these days (and oh, how utterly disappointed you all will be by the banality) but I don?t know when this will occur. Do hold your breath--I'm sure it will be a thrilling expose.

3. After receiving healing from Linda (Lizardek?s mom) I have been free of anxiety and I want to shout from the mountaintops?THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.

4. The grant got done and mailed and man, am I glad that is behind me.

5. Today is Sunday and I have at least 4-5 hours of work that must get done before tomorrow morning?WTF? Am I incompetent? Is this what is going on? Or, am I trapped in some kind of strange science fiction movie where as hard as I work, more work appears?

6. Friday night we went down to Boston for the 85th birthday celebration for my father-in-law. It was a flawless event thanks to my amazing sister-in-law and her darlingest husband who planned out each detail with so much thought it was a perfectionist?s dream.

7. If there were Olympic medals for naps, I?d be like the Nadia Comaneci of the field. Seriously, I would get nothing but 10s from the judges.

*yes, it?s true, T does laundry and cooking far more frequently than I do. Again, I ask you WHAT THE HELL do I do all day?

got 2 cents?

I think that learning curve of yours is much, much steeper than you ever expected it could be. Also am so glad to hear that you are still anxiety-free. Yay, Mom! Also, I wrote you a letter while sitting in the sunshine on the deck this afternoon. A REAL. LIVE. HANDWRITTEN. LETTER.

Ah, no worries, okay? I have been accused of being the busiest person doing nothing. But you are a creator. That is big work. Never forget that.

I remember when I was out of work for awhile, and yet I was so busy! doing stuff! important stuff! And so I think it just must be life. I miss my little crazy routine when I get a break from it. Honestly, I really - if you want to share it here - hear about Lizardek's mom healing. I really, really am interested in this! As for the bus - there is a certain board member my coworkers and I have gleefully discussed how we wouldn't PUSH her, per se, into a lake, but maybe how if we were standing alongside her and maybe if she fell in we...yes, and we work in ministry. But you know, don't mess with us.

Thought you might like this (somewhat long) quote by James Gordon Gilkey. Tr?s pertinent. Most of us think ourselves as standing wearily and helplessly at the center of a circle bristling with tasks, burdens, problems, annoyance, and responsibilities which are rushing in upon us. At every moment we have a dozen different things to do, a dozen problems to solve, a dozen strains to endure. We see ourselves as overdriven, overburdened, overtired. This is a common mental picture and it is totally false. No one of us, however crowded his life, has such an existence. What is the true picture of your life? Imagine that there is an hour glass on your desk. Connecting the bowl at the top with the bowl at the bottom is a tube so thin that only one grain of sand can pass through it at a time. That is the true picture of your life, even on a super busy day, The crowded hours come to you always one moment at a time. That is the only way they can come. The day may bring many tasks, many problems, strains, but invariably they come in single file. You want to gain emotional poise? Remember the hourglass, the grains of sand dropping one by one.

Happy Birthday to your FIL. How long has he been married? At least you're busy doing things you like, for the most part, although grant writing? Sucks. @Sam-- can you co-worker swim?

How wonderful to learn all these things about you! Bravo. During the years when I wasn't working, I was busy all the time, too. I think of humans as being a very busy species, like ants or bees or beavers. Always constructing, deconstructing, busy busy busy. We are working animals - though, too, we are napping animals. It's a good thing.

Sheryl, I have no idea if this board member can swim. See, we are not so evil - we are not plotting against coworkers, but cantankerous board members! :)

I'm convinced it's some sort of natural law - the more time you try to carve out for yourself, the more everyone else tries to fill it in for you. So cool about Lizardek's mom - I think she should go on a blogger healing tour! Also, I second Sam - would be so interested in hearing more about the process, if you feel like talking about it...

Things to chuckle about... I fear I am the same when it comes to laundry and cooking. And things to "ooh!" & coo at with envy... a solar house! Magnificent! All seven a hoot to read.
