January 15, 2007 8:03 PM- golden globes 2007

7:54 pm

How does it work exactly? Is there one stylist who decides ?year of metallica? and then all the other stylists rush to follow suit (ouch, this live blogging could be mighty painful with the unfiltered puns).

Why do I watch? Because a) I have work to do that must get finished tonight because I have meetings all day tomorrow, a birthday bash for a friend tomorrow night and then Wednesday morning at the butt crack of dawn I am headed to Manhattan for four days. So I HAVE to get this project wrapped tonight-- and god, I am open to distraction.

b) and, because I wait EVERY year for someone to walk the red carpet in their own damn clothes and their own damn jewlery.

8:03 pm

Oooh Kate Blanchett is pissed.

8:05

The appeal of Justin Timberlack will be forever lost on me. Whoops-- freudian slip.

8:07

Did you really think Prince would show up?

8:08

Random thought during commercial break: Renee Z missed her calling for hemorroid commercials. Damn, that woman has a constipated smile.

8:11

I don't like Thomas Hayden Church. I really don't like Jeremy Irons. Weeds is in my Netflix queue and I can't wait. Jeremy Pivens repulses me. I really want the guy from Heroes to get it. I feel like he'd giggle if I squeezed him.

No, Jeremy Irons, you're a nightmare. JEEEEEZUS. You are such a nightmare.

8:15

What in the fuck is Clint Eastwood wearing? He looks like a ventriloquist.

GO Kyra. Go Kyra! KYRA YESSSSSSSSSssssssssssssssss!

Random thought during commercial break: Annette Bening just reminded me of Katherine Turner, but not in a body heat kind of way--in a war of the roses kind of way. Ew.

Also, annoying blonde that was Jude Law's girlfriend and is doing the Edie Sedgwick thing-y. Why? Why? Really, any time I see here all I can think is why?

8:27 pm

Will Ferrell, the fro, I don't approve.

Toni Collette-- I love you, but the hair is just wrong. Hope you get it though.

Elizabeth Perkins, honey, you've got the Norma Desmond thing down cold.

Oh YES-- I admit to seeing DWP twice and I'd see it again in a heartbeat. Loved it. Go Emily. show us some poise.

8:32 pm

Okay. Okay HFP, you got me. I totally expected Keifer to get it. But I'm good with Hugh Laurie.

So far, Hugh has best speech of the night wrapped up. Let's see if anyone can knock him out of the top spot.

Random thought during commercial break: well, not so random. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and admit that I really like Hilary Swank's look tonight. It's almost too twee, too young, but she just squeaks it out. I also like it because it stands out from all the metallic strapless-- yawnnnnnnnnnnnnn.

What time is it? Shit. Okay, I'm staying through two more commercials and then that's it. I stop, go upstairs and work. I swear.

8:40 pm

This laptop is making my thighs hot. Not in a good way.

Steve Carrell-- I couldn't be near you because I'd just be all giggles. Really, you could just sit there and I would lose my shit. You have kryptonic power. I can tell.

I love Maggie Gyllenahal-- even if I can't spell her name.

Man if you ever wondered why they invented face powder that guy from Cars sure was a glaring reminder.

*crossing fingers for Toni Collette*

oh wait wait wait no Meryl all MERYl didn't know they were in the same category.

IT WAS ALWAYS MERYL--

Oh Meryl, I am so totally satisfied now. That was it. I am good. I still have one more commercial before I have to go to work but at least I'm satisfied. Meryl, you rock.

Commercial Break; wow. That was a great Target commercial. I'm still not going to shop there, but, yeah-- really liked that commercial.

Studio 60 writers have hooked up the two lead guys with the two lead women? Gee, you just don't see that everyday.

8:56 pm

When he's not in character, Sacha Baron Cohen is very cute.

Rachel Weisz is a gorgeous woman and she looks awful-- dress is a terrible color-- boring cut. Hair is way too dark and not well styled. How crazy is that? A NATURALLY beautiful woman who is made to look so ordinary.

LAST Commercial Break? Wahhh. Did I say I'd be ready to go work? I lied. Noooo. But wait, who's that? It's Daisy!! She just ran in here from being down in T's office. He is the good one. He finished his work first. The brat. Guess I'll have to hear all about how it wraps up from him.

Was fun while it lasted. Night all.

got 2 cents?

I totally am glad that I read your blog just as the GG were starting on the West Coast. Cracked me up and gave me something to look forward to... You rock, BP...

Sheesh where have I been? I looked at the list of nominees for all the movie categories, and I've only seen two, and haven't even heard of about half of them.

OK, although I don't watch TV or see hardly any movies, that post made me giggle just for the candor of it all.

Can you believe I forgot to watch? Thank goodness for your recap. And we are totally in agreement on Renee Z and Sienna Miller.

You give the Fug Girls a run for the best snark! The most fun to be had was watching the red carpet stuff before the show - plenty of time to scruntinize the outfits and squeal and judge. I am extremely, extra happy happy that our darling Kyra kicked booty (but her hair! oh dear! honey!) and that my adored Hugh Laurie was so cute and funny. If Cate could have won my night would have been fully complete, but alas. Meryl was charming and deserving, she was just the best as Miranda Priestly.

I don't like Jeremy Irons, either, but I have a feeling I would have gotten more dates in my life if I had his voice.

Have you ever really seen Rene Z's teeth? I think that what contributes to her constipated smile. It's a shame you had to tune out before Jennifer Love Hewitt's appearance in a prom dress from 1985.

you're so funny! I haven't even seen any of it! Why is Sienna allowed on the red carpet? I thought she'd been banished from the fame game for being sartorially disappointing. It's hard to work out since films are released about a year later than in the U.S here - even British ones.

Did you know that Jeremy Irons did a stint on children's TV in the UK? Yeah. The Grim Reaper himself. There's an immortal clip of him pretending to be a duck carrying an umbrella, or something equally twee. Can you imagine what that looks like? Can you? It's terrifying.

now see, why didn't i read this yesterday. i was pissed because i missed the majority of the globes because of a carbon monoxide detector that decided to go on the fritz. we had to call the fire department and everything. now i get the whole play by play. i did watch enough to see that there was no johnny depp to be seen. why johnny, why? i wait all year just to catch one glimpse of you looking all hot and yummy.

oh man, i missed out on the GG except for a short portion and i guess to watch a rerun is not the same. although i agree with you on annette benning. she was so beautiful then. now warren looks more graciously aged than her. i also think it's her hair.

What a hoot, I felt compelled to keep reading even though the ACTUAL owner of this laptop was wanting it back... and my thighs were getting too hot also, but it's so cold here I didn't mind. I hope you do the Oscars etc. as well, I can never bear to watch, but reading it from you, such fun. If you do, and if I forget, and if you have time - drop me a note on my blog and I'll check in, coz I don't get as much blog reading done now that my world is dog centric.

I've also seen DWP twice and would see it again, too. Almost embarassed to say that, but...it's good fun, non? Rene Zellwegger's problem is her upper lip. It's been pumped with so much collagen, it's become a sentient being. I ran into her at a restaurant, on the stairway to the ladies washroom. She stepped aside to let me go past, and all I saw was LIP. So it isn't smiling we see, but a lip wrangling job gone awry.
