October 15, 2006 10:35 AM- more of a heathen than I thought

Thanks to Jason Kottke who posted a link to this article, my laughter rang to the heavens on this holy day.

Of course, it's one of those essays that are so ridiculous that you can only sound like an idiot commenting on it, but you know me-- no fear of being an idiot. Some of the lines I found most adorable:

Today we live in the Laodicean era (Rev. 3:14-21)?the seventh and last era of the Church.

Oh happy day! As I am a heathen sinner, I never knew there was going to be an end to the Church. Hallelujah!

Last century was, for the most part, the time of the sixth era, Philadelphia . . . . Another way to gain knowledge of a particular era is to examine its name. For example, Philadelphia means ?brotherly love,? a trait of that era.

Indeed! Last century was a shining example of Brotherly Love-- gosh, World War I, World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, genocide in Rwanda, Serbo-Croatia, we had Apartheid! We were veritably wrapped in brotherly love, amen!

So what can we conclude? How should God?s youth approach blogs? Are there biblical principles that apply?

Of course there are biblical principles that apply to blogging! What do you think Moses was carting down the damn mountain? That was the world's first meme.

Go read it for yourself-- it's a hoot.

I mean, c'mon-- Descartes himself couldn't come up with logic like this:

Blogs being labeled as therapeutic is merely a shallow excuse. Some say illicit drugs are therapeutic?does that mean they should be used? Obviously not.

Well, doh.

got 2 cents?

Whoo hoo, hello! I just popped in to say I miss you and da dum, my prayers were answered with this post. My favourite: "Isn't your carnal nature inclined toward vanity?" Everyone knows blogs are the spawn of the devil, I must cleanse myself of my inherent filthiness at once!

I'm laughing so hard I think I might go into labor. And if I do, I'm coming to Soliden to hug your pretty little neck.

My favorite: People simply blurt things out, without considering the contents or consequences.. Yeah, whoa, geez. Do they ever! Either way, I love that photo up there, yo.

The world's first meme...I love it. (And you know, he BROKE IT. HE BROKE THE FIRST MEME. What does that say about us?) After skimming through that article, I can't help but wonder - did they read any, GASP, well-written blogs? Because it sounds like they simply perused MySpace. And I am mightily offended! Also, thank GOD I am not in a youth group anymore - if blogging is a sin, then I don't want to be right! All I know is that you are my kind of heathen. Thank heavens for blogs!

OMG...what a wonderfully hilarious piece! And to think that all I heard in church yesterday was a sermon on righteousness (which apparently should have been translated as Justice or something....like 'blessed are the just'...sure is different than what I usually think , which is that when someone says righteous they mean self-righteous (and that's just not virtuous in my opinion). Love the photo too....

Ask yourself, “Do I have a tendency to want to have a voice?” OH NO!! THE HORROR!! Everyone knows God doesn't want you to have a voice! Or a brain!

You know, I'm going to forward this to my pastor. He'll get a hoot out of it. You know, us liberal Lutherans!

I actually lost an old friend because she felt the content of my blog didn't glorify God, and it wasn't time well spent. Yea verily, I was sad about that.
