September 13, 2006 12:46 PM- go S car! go!

T has a repertoire of jokes that slay the 5-7 year old age set. One of them is about Sammy the snail who has a big red "S" painted on the side of his car. I don't remember how the joke goes (c'mon, I've only heard it about 43 times, how could I possibly be expected to remember it??!), but the punchline* has been zinging around my head these days:

Go "S" car! Go!

The reason I have snails on the brain is not that I will be back in Paris as I was this time last year. *sniff* How we did have fun together, non? I would post the pretty pictures and you would leave me caustic comments about how much you hated me and the misery I was causing you. Ah, good times.

No, it's the pace of the snail that is with me. Itsy bitsy forward movement into this new job, this new life.

One thing that HAD to get done and I am proud to say is now underway is the cleaning and organizing of my office as (did I mention this part of my magical-too-good-to-be-true-dream job?) I now work from home. Although I do have to go in for weekly staff meetings, monthly board meetings, etc-- my office is here at Soliden. Now you understand the pinching and the junkie arms.

If you remember-- once it was this horror show. Now, thanks to T who painted my walls the perfect shade of palest lavender (the photos don't really show it well, you'll have to take my word for it-- unless of course, you loathe lavender in which case I urge you to look away).

There is still, obvs, a long way to go, but look at all the shelving (thanks again to T)! and floor space and wall space-- all of which I am sure to fill up with crap in no time.

The computer on the left in the corner is T's temporary space as his office is nearing completion, but is not yet ready for prime time play.

All my art supplies are in the closet and when T moves out, I will put my ginormous easel in that corner-- whereupon I will fall to the floor in a seizure of ecstasy which, really, isn't such a bad way to die.

The picture on the wall is entitled "Three Muses" and it is one of my most favorite things ever. The artist is Stephanie Arildson and I got it at Artfest last year. Same place I got the reworked pocketwatch that hangs on the dressform.* The watch reads, "it takes courage to explore life."

*of course, how many francophile 5-7 year olds do you know that get the joke on ESCARGOT? Yeah, I know, but it cracks us up everytime.

**I am open for names for my dressform-- she is a wonderful spirit but I really haven't given her a name-- any ideas?

got 2 cents?

Adele. Working from HOME on a DREAM JOB?!!! Let me get over my amazement that these two qualities are possible TOGETHER. At the same time. And that somebody out there has actually made it a reality. Gives me hope!

right from the beginning of the post I was thinking "where's the dressform?" in quite a panicky fashion. And before I read about the name, Margaret popped into my head - not very glam and I have no idea why! p.s the same line of cars as my Duckie has a van called an S-Cargo and it actually looks like a snail!

I just looked up the S cargo and it actually says "the first car likely inspired by a joke"! Now T has to buy one..except they're kind of ugly! (your site thinks I am an impostor and won't let me send you the link!)x

I'm a fan of the name Jane *wink* I LOVE LOVE LOVE your office. It looks like a place I'd love to spend time. Enjoy. But don't over work just because your work is at home. My live-in artist does that and it's super stressful on the entire household. Lavender! My favorite color. Jane

You mean I can't just hate you for being able to go to Paris - now I have to hate you for being able to work at home in that beautiful office? With the Butterscotch Boys to keep you company. I could call you a nasty name, but the escargot punch line made me giggle, so that's your saving grace.

Colette? Anais? Whoever inspires you! (I have to admit my first response came from my ghoulish sense of humor - M. Antoinette) Awful - I know. :-)

She looks like a Minette or an Emmeline to me. Dunno why. I love the way you've cunningly tacked a twilight street onto one end of the room, it will doubtless prove handy for the shopping.

I like the M. Antionette suggestion too - very fitting. Of course, if we wanted to stick with a french theme you could always use Melanie pronounced Meelanee like all my french relatives do.

Wow. Envy here over your office! I am getting a new office (because we are moving) and in about 2.5 seconds it will be a land of chaos. But you are inspiring me to consider making it a fabulously peaceful and beautiful place. Maybe I should try that! It seems so impossible at the moment that I hadn't even considered it. What about Solange? To keep up with the French them. That or Sandrine. Somehow, I think it needs to be an 'S' name.

You are have the most beautiful office ever - I am loving the pale lavendar walls, the feng shui chart, and of course the dress form - alas, I have no names, me the namer! She's just so mysteriously wonderful. So yes, go with a French name, or just plain old Betty. I especially love the big painting/picture of the Parisian street - I am assuming it's Paris - just WOW!

I dunno about a name for the mannequin, Ad?le sounds rather mannequin-y... But I am in love with your office. May I hide in a little corner and bask in the lavender loveliness of it all? I'll even clean if you want me to. And take care of the gods...ooos dogs
