February 01, 2006 3:52 PM- the contenders

Does anyone else love the first day of the month?

Perhaps not if you work in finance as I just exclaimed my love of the first day of the month in the bathroom as a woman who works in finance exited the stall and she said, "are you kidding me?"

Apparently in the world of finance the first two weeks of the month are all about rushing to fix the last month's numbers. Whatevs.

For me, it's a fresh start. A clean slate. A new beginning. And I had a plan to launch something new here at bunnypants central, but alas-- no such luck.

And so I was all about the not posting til I could launch the new thing-y. Okay. Enough with the coy. It was a new header. There. Big deal. Right? I mean come on-- some people change their headers as often as they change their underwear.

But I'm something of a fixed sign--- I tend to wear one pair of earrings until I lose one. I have one perfect little black dress. I've never experimented with colored hair or wild cuts. Oh, and I never wear underwear-- so there really shouldn't be any surprise that I haven't changed my header since the beginning of time.

But this week I am forbidden to read! No reading! And as a result I have had time on my hands to create stuff and so I have made some banners. I've attached some of the final contenders (below) who didn't make the cut.

Don't know when the real replacement will go in . . but probably when you least expect it!

First runner-up

Second runner-up

Third runner-up

got 2 cents?

I don't work in finance but they are on my azz the 1st of the month so I don't like it either. Believe me, I just got done with my reports, amidst serious copious blog-reading.

i was just going to write a post about how wonderful the first of the month is. it's like a mini new year's eve every 30 days. so new and ripe and full of promise. looking forward to the new header!

The problem with no underwear is no sexy underwear either. Oh, I guess I should go look at the headers now.

I work in accounting, and eventhough I don't do the month-end closing, I know how frustrating it can be for my co-workers. I too love the first day of a new month--a fresh, clean slate.

I'm impressed. I don't wear underwear either - but I am an unemployed slob who lives in the tropics. It's more expected from me.

I'm glad someone's got enough willpower to stick with the not reading...As you'll see whenever you read this, I am BAD, I have fallen off the wagon, bigtime - who knew not reading could be so dagnabbit hard (& then it makes you start typing like Gabby Hayes on moonshine, when you fall off!) I could only see the first runner-up for some reason; probably a penance imposed on me for falling off the AW path....

. . . I love the third one, but mostly because it just reeks of creative madness and/or extreme joy, depending I guess on the sort of day one has had. I like the other two, too . . . :)

I can't imagine working in a field where the first two weeks of a month are spent "fixing" last month's numbers, because you always spend the last two weeks of the month trying to hit/exceed numbers. Stressful. In the wine industry you only get all stressed out and pull out all the stops the last week/last day of the month. A brand new month is a fresh, clean slate.

i also have a significan fondness for the first of the month. and a strange fascination with the 15th of the month. i can often be found saying "its the ides of____(fill in month)" with a fake sense of foreboding. i'm a little too superstitious to actually say "beware the ides of ___(fill in month)."

Suggest no. 3 possibly too psychedelic for a blog whose overall design is simple and elegant. Love the cute mutt in no. 2. However, disregard opinions anyway, as am having difficulty concentrating after your comment about lack of knickers.

Numbers? Fixing them? Sounds like pure hell to me, friend. Seriously, I am impressed with the not-reading. Like Tinker, I have fallen off the wagon. And I vote for number 1!

That poor little Cairn Terrier in your second banner looks pathetic. I think it would depress me if I had to lookat it every day. I agree with you about the first of the month though - I love it and always try and make it special in some sort of way, usually by starting another project that I am never going to finish.

My 2 cents: don't like dogs, too many years as a paperboy, so the second one goes. third one is too busy, it doesn't fit with the rest of the layout which now that I have found this place, I will be back. I love the first one, those legs are definitely walking into somewhere... can I follow?

I don't get the no underwear thing. Doesn't it just mean you have to wash your jeans (or whatever) more often? I'm asking this in all seriousness, not to be snarky. I've never understood why people go commando, and I can't really go around asking my co-workers about their underwear status, now can I? Enlighten me, oh wise BP.

I'm with Janeen. Am I the only one who ever gets that not so fresh feeling? And without underoos, wouldn't it be all. the. time? Oh, and go with the dog one, or the legs one, or whatever the heck you want because you're not wearing underwear for mitsy's sake! I have to go lay down and drink some wine.

I vote for 2 or 3 - 2 because, hello, it's a DOG (on top of being cute, it's the Year Of The Dog); 3 because it's somehow more BPish than the others. It's got a "playtime inside BP's head" feel to it. And yeah, what's with this underwear thing? Going al fresco always makes me a bit nervous, for some reason. I wear tiny ones anyway, so there's not all that much difference in fabric yardage... But just having those few cotton strips makes the biggest difference in my sense of security!

I love the little Cairn Terrier. He looks just like my friend's little pooch, who is named Bertie Wooster (which just tickles me). I used to be a finance geek. I kind of liked the routine of doing the 'actuals' at the first of the month, then writing the reports, then doing the next month's forecast, etc. It worked in the part of my brain that craves order. Where did that part go, you may ask... Every Friday's Illustration Friday and subsequent header change is where...

I have to agree with you. As a lawyer who's a slave to the monthly billable hour, it's always nice when it's the first day of the month, and I know I have an entire month before me to catch up on billables!
