January 27, 2006 7:03 AM- attack of the spam

A common question from other bloggers is "why no RSS feed? Why no trackback? why no blogroll? why no email notification? why no naked pics?"

Okay, that last one is just my husband who doesn't blog, yet. (yet!)

But as for the rest, the answer is two-fold. One I am lazy and cannot even keep up with the activities I set out for this blog as it is (Exhibit A: opines), two I have made a conscious effort to fly under the radar of spam and trolls even if it meant less traffic.

The fact is, I am very happy with less traffic. I like being a country blogger with only the occasional visitor stopping in for some pie and coffee-- except, pie-- hmm, not one of my favorite things-- probably more likely to offer rice krispie treats or peking ravioli-- but you get my point. In fact, I generally feel I can hardly maintain ties with all of you who do stop in on a regular basis-- and I'm not particularly interested in tons of strangers peeking in my windows-- I have no need of anonymous affection/interest.

In my fantasies of being a rock and roll singer I'm always in a small bar/club-- never in a giant stadium-- that has no appeal to me whatsoever. So I'm not sure how I wandered into this ramble, but I sat down to tell you I'm having trouble with spam.

Gah.

They are getting into my comments and even where you can't see them-- it's like an infestation of lice, fleas, flour bugs, roaches-- take your pick. It sucks and I have called my exterminator who is putting in some code to hopefully keep those unbidden culex pipiens out of my site.

All of which is an explanation as to why comments have been wonky and why they may be missing in the near future.

Other than that-- life is grand. The Artist's Way activity has been amazing. The morning pages are an old friend and I have loved getting back into that routine.

This week has been grueling at work with long, long days-- but it is temporary and hey! today is Friday. Boy Howdy! Do I need it.

And can I just give a BIG SHOUT OUT to my beloved Molly who tossed me a life preserver a couple of weeks ago. I had emailed her desperate for some help as I had lost both my funny and my libido-- although she couldn't help with the latter, she did hook me up with Veronica and lord, lord! It was just like that scene in Pulp Fiction when John Travolta has to jab the needle with adrenaline into Uma Thurman's chest. Just like that.

I jolted awake and was saved.

got 2 cents?

I'm just like you - I like seeing how my blog readers slowly expand as people slowly somehow find me. Luckily no spam so far!

But the comments won't be missing forever, will they? I love the people who hang out in your comments. But you know, this is your blog, and you are the Queen Thereof. And hooray for Molly saving the day! Go Molly!

I'm just popping in because I need a work break and need to rouch my peeps. I have not even blogged for days and days and feel like I have receded into the darkest of shadows, but LOVE coming into the light of your world. I did not know Molly before, but went there immediately after hearing that she so lovingly saved your life, and she is amazing. So sorry the villains are rampaging your site. Drat and worse!!!

I'm with you. After all those people sailed through for de-lurking week, I was glad to pull down the metaphorical shades. Whew, I'm glad they're gone! I'd much rather have a small circle of intimates.
