May 17, 2005 3:57 PM- so uncool

There?s a guy here at work I call ?Twin.? He calls me ?Twinnie.? (That may be as cloying as this story is going to get, but you never know?proceed at your own risk).

As I expect you can guess, these nicknames have their origin some years back in a late night pub crawl across Paris (we were there for a company trade show) when Twin and I discovered (with the other two guys who were trawling along with us) that we shared the exact same birthday. However, since he was born in England and I was born in Boston, we decided that although we may have been poised to jump at precisely the same time, he went first and is thus, the older twin.

(We also established that this is his first lifetime as a man and my first lifetime as a woman?but that?s a story for another day).

So Twin and I have worked together in the same department for some time. Oddly, as life would so weirdly have it, he now reports to me but it totally works since our opposite natures balance out.

He is a disheveled, disorganized wreck--- my office is immaculate; my binders are organized by date, project and color. Scary, non? On the other hand, he is one of the most laid-back, easy going guys. Always able to strike up a conversation with anyone anytime. As opposed to the uptight, inaccessible woman who could best be described as having a slight ?froideur.?

One of the biggest contrasts is his passion for music--- he is the one who turned me on to Franz Ferdinand?and a typical week of shows for him is Saturday he was in New York to see British Sea Power. Then he saw them again last night in Boston. He?s got some other show tonight?but Saturday he?s going to Boston to see Snow Patrol!

All of this has come up, of course, due to gatsby's recent glowing recommendation of Snow Patrol. Twin goes to shows All.The.Time. I rarely keep up. But yesterday, seeing as he is my music guru, I said, hey do you know Snow Patrol?

He rolled his eyes as he is wont to do whenever I try to talk music with him and said, ?Twinnie, I put Snow Patrol on the cd I made you last Fall!?

Ooops.

So I came back to my office and dug out the cd he had burned for me. I remember now. This was back in the phase when he was going to ?coolify? me. It was a big project we had.

*sigh*

I think it?s safe to say, I have not achieved ?cool? status. In fact, I believe it?s safe to say I never will. But for those of you who might be interested in my early attempts?here is the cd he made:

?Tunes for a Twin?

1. somewhere only we know ? keane
2. who brings joy ? paul weller
3. spitting games?snow patrol
4. something like you?Michael head/strands
5. maybe tomorrow?stereophonics
6. carrion?british sea power
7. mirrored in my mind?guy chadwick
8. nothing lasts forever?echo&the bunnymen ***
9. circling the circumference?trash can sinatras
10. petroleum?shack
11. this is the last time?keane
12. a song for the lovers?richard ashcroft
13. remember me?british sea power
14. re-instated?shack
15. slow was my heart?richard ashcroft

How uncool is it that the only song/band I've heard of on that cd is the one that's your super favorite?

I've only heard of two of those bands...and have never heard a single tune by either of them. On the other hand, I did go see Marcus Miller in concert Saturday night...so I'd like to think that I'm in the Cool Brigade...

a sort of modernized MTVish "my fair lady" -- sounds hot. stupid, but hot. all the teenage boys fantasizing about older women would surely spend their burger king paychecks to see the scene where she tries on all the slutty clothes usually designated for fashionable 15 year olds. also, the trash can sinatras? sure it's a good song, and a deep cut, but it's also from like 96- if the position of henry higgins ever opens up, i'd like to nominate myself- (rather than spend my burger king paycheck)

i've only just discovered snow patrol myself. currently, i am the educating rita of the hip hop world. when you are tired of the same playlists on the the usual radio stations you listen to, there is nothing like switching genres.

I am entirely uncool, I barely know anyone on this list! I must get some education - yesterday I did hear the new Coldplay song and ran to the Internet to find out when I can buy the new CD - I MUST WAIT FOREVER. And now I can check out Snow Patrol. How sweet that you have a twin to make you CDs.

I am so uncool that I only JUST NOW am listening to Keane (and loving it btw). A while ago a friend of mine made me a CD entitled "The Hip Hop Education of [Chanelbaby]" I have yet to listen to the whole thing.

I am a product of '80s music. But love finding new artists that aren't annoying pop. This past week I've read several blogs extolling the virtues of Snow Patrol. I think I need to give them a listen.

Please, please, please don't anyone kick me in the shins for this, but...I think Snow Patrol blows. There went the last ounce of my coolness. I promise I'll skitter away in shame now. Oh! BP thank you for the kind words of encouragement :)

Oh, how uncool am I? Most of those I don't know, but maybe I'll go check them out on the basis that the ones I do know are great. I need a Coolifying Fairy myself, who can dress me and teach me to put on makeup and help me listen to better music and instruct me how to not be an utter spazz.
