May 05, 2005 5:34 PM- au revoir

(NOTE: I have no f?ing clue how to put French accents in html so all French is sans accent- tant pis pour vous)

It was not the way I wanted to say good-bye.

7:50 a.m. Cue background sound of television cartoons and sleepy children squabbling over the remote, en francais bien entendu.

Front door opens. Dogs bark. Enter my cousins, Jean-Luc and Emmanuelle, dressed to the nines. I run down the stairs, half-dressed in outfit #1. My hair is wet.

Jean-Luc: Bonjour!

Emmanuelle: Ils etaient bien sages?

Me: *pecking each of them with a set of bisous that had all the charm of an immunization shot delivered at 40 m.p.h* Hi. Hi. Hi.

I race past them to the downstairs bathroom to dry my hair. La petite Elisabeth is there in her darling pajamas with their tiny red and white checks. I pull Elisabeth away from the mirror and push her out the door.

Me: Go. Go. Go. *frantically drying hair and thinking about the presentation I have to give to the president and his senior staff this morning at 9:30 a.m. that I only found out about at 4:30 yesterday afternoon. Merde. Merde. Merde.*

8:01 a.m. I race past my cousins who are standing politely in the kitchen waiting for me to serve them some coffee and breakfast.

Me: *dashing past and pointing to the freshly made coffee* La. La. La.

8:06 a.m. The pungent smell of burning toast wafts up to my bedroom where I am half-dressed in outfit #3. I race down the stairs.

Jean-Luc: *shrugs* Hup-la. *shaking his head at the faulty toaster*

Me: Non. Non. Non. *I reset the toaster to toast and not to broil*

Upstairs, the sound of a dog being teased. I race back up the stairs. The three little angels stop what they are doing and gaze at me innocently. Saved, Ollie runs down the stairs.

Me: Laissez les chiens tranquilles!

8:17 a.m. Half-dressed in outfit #4.

Emmanuelle: *calling up the stairs* Elizabeth?

Me: Oui?

Emmanuelle: Euh, Henry a vomit.

Sound of children screaming.

Me: *looking at the children* Qui? Qui? Qui? Qui a donne quelque chose a manger a Henry?

Clean up Henry?s puke. Put the dogs out on the deck.

8:24 a.m. Dressed in outfit #5. Hate outfit #5. Running down the stairs.

Me: Late. Late. Late. *running over to my cousins for hugs good-bye*

Cousins: Merci beacoup.

Me: Sorry. Sorry. Sorry. Wish I could stay and be with you. Drive safely. Bye. Bye. Bye.

So they are gone. No big Survivor-drunken-Belgian chocolate-orgy tonight because I begged off. Instead, sitting on the couch. Quiet. Peaceful. Rubbing the dogs? heads. Touching fingers with T. Life, back to normal.

got 2 cents?

May I borrow your map when you're done with it? The one that shows how to get to Normal? (I could use it right about now.) Enjoy your peaceful Thursday eve...sounds like you most certainly earned it. Me, I'm off to a fairgrounds to see Willie Nelson in a hot pink cowboy hat. (Oops.,.me in that hat...not Willie).

I am so tired from reading about this whirligig! How ever did you survive? Must stop and take a nap. And a drink. OK, better now. Thank goodness I can read Fronch - mind you, I can't speak a damn word. Non! But I can eat brie. Lot's of it. And Fronch Fries. And Fronch Toast. And Fronch Onion Soup. And Fronch Bread... that's about it for the Fronch foods.

A few congratulations to you. One, for making it through with the kiddos. Two, for finally settling on an outfit. And lastly for ending the day with pats to the dog heads. I'm so glad they came home. May the weekend bring you peace.

Alors, you do it like this:

é turns into é
è turns into è
â turns into â
ê turns into ê

...and so on. Hope that helps.

Enjoy the calm after the storm!

You gave me a heart attack. I thought you were saying goodbye to US!!! soupir de soulagement!

You can also do this with the French vowel symbols: hold down ALT and use the number pad to punch in: ALT+0233 = ? ALT+0232 = ? ALT+0226 = ? ALT+0234 = ? You can find them in your Character Map, which can be found from your Start Menu, under Accessories :)
