June 18, 2004 8:03 AM- drunk and nostalgic

Voila a very drunk, very happy bluepoppy on the eve of her wedding eleven years ago today. Which one is she? Well, I should let y'all guess, but I think the shit-eating grin gives it away, as does the Morticia-like (aka The Munsters) forking of hair across her sweaty and drunken brow. HINT: I'm not wearing polka dots. DOUBLE HINT: I would NEVER wear polka dots. (Not that there's anything wrong with polka dots).

Looking back, maybe polka dots were in that season as both Tara and Julie wore them without any pre-planning. Tangerine girl saved my life in college (and I am not speaking figuratively). Girl in the center was my roommate in college for 2 years (plus we shared a 12' x 14' room with another girl AND her boyfriend freshman summer as we worked on Block Island--wow-- too bad I didn't have a blog back then. O the sex stories from that era).

Sad reflections for me, Tangerine girl and I barely exchange Christmas cards-- lives just pulled in different directions. Polka dot girl on the right went to New Zealand, changed her name, and last time I saw her was at her wedding years ago. Ta and I have managed to keep the bond alive and well, though there were some years there when the rope was shredded to a single strand of string and I didn't know if we were gonna make it through to the other side-- but, we did. Roomie? Don't know what's going on there. She's got two kids and it's a struggle. She married the guy who lived below us Freshman year. We've drifted apart. I'm kinda peeved cause I feel like I really tried to keep it together and she's been all "busy". Whatever. Outside of T, she knew me better than anyone in the world, once upon a time. Stay tuned. I believe Roomie and I will reunite one of these days and sparks will fly.

Eleven years. Sometimes it feels like a hundred. Like a lifetime ago. Sometimes, like this morning when the air is humid and soft and the scent of peonies wafts and the drone of motorcycles throbs in my ears-- it's all reminiscent of that day and it feels like it all happened just yesterday.

got 2 cents?

O BP! UNVEILED! Happy, Happy anniversary to you and T!!! I think you look absolutely fetching despite profound lack of polka dots! Lovely and lively and bursting with love! sigh. I've been thinking about lovelies who've drifted away on the river of life recently too...or was it me who drifted? It's hard to tell. Ebb and flow... I guess it's a natural thing, but sometimes bittersweet, no?!

Congratulations on your anniversary! It's almost been 5 years for us, I can't believe how time has flown. Hope you celebrate tonight in style! And isn't it funny how old friends come and go in your life... sometimes they're there, and sometimes they pass through. The true ones, though, are the ones who, when they do come back into your life, act as though not a day has passed that you haven't spoken (even if it's been years).

Congrats - 11 years is an interesting time, early 20s *sigh* was I genuinely ever that young, it is in fact the year I met the previous Red Baroness but 9 years was all we managed. Still, got a Red Baronette and a Marquis of Red to show for it!! Sorry, British heraldic humour! Wee, shouldn't that be absolutely fetching precisely because of lack of polka dots? I'm with BP on this one, then again dresses and me in general are not an especially good look, so what would I know?!

Merry, merry, merry anniversary! Isn't it amazing how people drift away from each other - I firmly believe that many friendships take work and effort! But then there are those, like Jenn says, that you can just pick up where you left off... and about the polka dots - i think sometimes a WHOLE outfit of polka dots can be too mucn - but a little skirt or top is perhaps just right! Hope you and T celebrate 11 years together with lots of hugs and kisses!!

Congrats, BP and hubby!! Hope you have a wonderfully delicious anniversary. It is funny how friends come and go. I have had some drifters (or maybe I drifted), in any case; your true friends are ALWAYS there and will always be. I have friends that I haven't actually seen in YEARS but when we talk it's like we never have been apart. It's blissful!

A year ago I went back to coloring my hair. I mention this only because my gray grows in two actual Lily Munster streaks. You, my dear, are no Lily...you look like the ravishing bride you surely must have been. Congrats on your anniversary. Reading '11 years' makes me realize that my man and I have gone past the 9 year mark...and still not gotten around to making it 'legal'...maybe we will by 11. As for keeping in touch, I have faith you'll reconnect with those you're meant to...(at least that's how it's worked for me). Thanks for sharing the photo.

Well, I'm sorry, but only polka dots will do for me. Your shameful lack of vestimental punctuation saddens me. ;) P.S. Congratulations, and all that serious stuff.

Honest to god-- you people are too fun! Clouds of netplasm, Red Baronettes and vestimental punctuation-- I'm having an etymologistic swoon. *eyelids fluttering*

My wife and I are coming up on our fifth anniversary but we've been together 11 years. I know that there are times it feels like yesterday and others when it feels as though an eternity has passed. What's important is that you've made it through together. Happy Anniversary to you.
