June 17, 2004 9:04 AM- they sucked me back in

It's true. I avoid addressing politics or religion whenever possible because to me it is a hopeless morass. No amount of common sense or clear intelligence will ever right the intolerable wrongs that religion and politics (which to my mind are one and the same since they attract the same power hungry, reptilian brained creatures) spawn.

HOWEVER, life is nothing if not an endless series of exceptions. And today, I cannot NOT express my utter disbelief.

JonBenet Ramsey's Father Runs for Office

"The father of JonBenet Ramsey, the 6-year-old beauty queen strangled in her Boulder, Colo., home, is running for the Michigan House."

"He campaigns as an anti-abortion, pro-gun, anti-gay-marriage conservative and a savvy businessman. He founded Access Graphics, a billion-dollar software company later acquired by Lockheed Martin."

"Scott Ingersoll, a lawyer running for Cheboygan County prosecutor, said Ramsey has no choice but to address the JonBenet matter head-on: "His job is to go out there and dispel the notion that he MURDERED HIS DAUGHTER (caps mine). Your average person has an innate ability to determine whether he's sincere or not. Sometimes that determines a winner from a loser," Ingersoll said."*

Um, let me see if I've got this straight. They exploted that child in fucking beauty pageants to satisfy their own massively imbalanced egos now they are exploiting the name recognition they have for being her LIKELY killers?!

I might be below average, but if this guy knocked on my door for his vote, he'd get a vote he'd never forget right in his fucking teeth. Let alone the platform he is running on-- JESUS.

What's next, O.J. Simpson running for Senate?

Oh. My. Lord. That is almost comical if it werent so incredibly WRONG on so many levels. Thats all I can say.

I'm not sure the space-time continuum can handle such a huge concentration of WRONG in one spot. I think it's just a matter of time before the universe will just have to gobble him up and spit him out, say, near M81? (I wanted to say Uranus, but this is a classy blog and I contained myself.)

I agree with Zoot. I thought is was a JOKE at first. And I am like you Ms. BP....I generally HATE discussing politics and religion (even though I AM religious in ways--I just don't like to discuss it very much)... but something like this, well you just gotta gasp. By the way, thanks for your comment! I was excited to see comments so soon!!

This is utterly sickening and really saddens me, the extent to which some of humanity's more unsavoury souls will stoop.

Sorry Wee (and all of you) for the head hurting-- it has hurt my head, too. I promise to refrain from this type of post for another six months or so unless O. J. DOES run for Senate in which case I amnot responsible for my actions. And Belly, by religion, I mean the corporations and man-made structure of religious institutions. I do not mean spirit or spiritual people who may or may not be religious.

My sentiments exactly.... I just didn't want anyone to think that I would Thump the BIG BOOK at them or anything... And I like "spiritual" better than "religious" anyway. Because you can "religiously" brush your teeth, or "religiously" pick your nose at red lights, but SPIRITUAL, well that is something altogether different. I just didn't think of it when I was commenting.... I find this non-thinking when commenting habit that I have very disturbing. I always re-read after I post a comment and go "DOH! That didn't sound right at ALL!" Also, I have a bad rambling habit too. As you can see. So I am spiritual and I am shutting up now! ;)

i have always HOPED these people weren't behind their daughter's murder - and if they didn't, I can understand trying to move on with their lives in a healthy manner - but this is beyound 'moving on'. And why does he have to run on the most conservative platform possible? To make all the 'good' people approve or vote for him? That's when I get upset - all my dear brothers and sisters who try to legislate their beliefs! Yipes! But dear bluepoppy, thanks for posting about this - it's something we need to know.

Are you surprised?! These are the same people who claim they did not hear anyone grab their child from bed and take her to the basement and kill her. Killers always call on Jesus when it is convenient. If they vote for him, they are a state of stupid ass people!!!!

I love politics, religion and all the stuff you're not supposed to talk about but sometimes I am dumbfounded by the nature of human insensitivity. Is it just me being a leftie or is this type of sickness usually the preserve of the neo-cons?

Actually, RB, I do believe you are right! The connection is there. Ego and self-rightousness is a lethal combo.
