November 16, 2004 7:42 PM- smooth me, baby

I'm thinking I just wasted a freaking lottery ticket.

All my friends with toddler age boys tell me their kids love watching trucks move dirt. All day. The kids can watch this. And it mesmerizes them. And their mothers-- thrilled that their beloved offspring is slack-jawed and not hitting, or breaking, or jumping, or whining, or otherwise shattering the peace-- is only too happy to fork over cash for a video that bestows such a gift of quiet upon their normally turbulent household.

And I? Had the videotaping opportunity extreme--- even if I don't know my way around a videocamera and the final result had been a little rough (that didn't stop Paris Hilton, now did it?)-- still, I think I could've moved it along briskly at e-bay. *sigh* I have no videocamera, helas.

Things are beginning to take shape up at Soliden. Below is the driveway before. (Damn. Now that I'm thinking about it-- this could've made for a GREAT Jeep commercial, ah hell--- why is it I never think of things to exploit until after the fact.)

And then the trucks came in.

Here's looking down from the house site at the road coming up to greet me.

Oh, and before you get all in my face about killing forests and hurting the ground and being forceful with rocks that have rights, too--- this road has been here for over 150 years. We're just smoothing it out and improving it. Just gravel and dirt, no tarmac, no yellow lines. Just an old country road to bring me home.

got 2 cents?

Beautimous! I am impressed by all those big, scary trucks. Yes, a video would have been the COOLEST but your pictures are wonderful, as always. And country roads are the dearest to my heart.

When my boys were little, I would drive around LOOKING for construction sites....and they would watch for hours while I enjoyed a latte and a good book. HOW COOL to have that action right there! (and hope it remains 'cool' throughout the process). Congrats and please keep posting pics as the building continues.

The Road to Soliden! It sounds like a great movie! Makes me want to put on rubber boots and a hard hat and commandeer a tractor :)

Very beautiful setting; it will be idyllic. Who could be a splenetic misanthrope in this lovely setting?(the way I'm feeling lately, I could) Your photos look great--what program are you using? I have to get something better than typepad's insert photos!
