October 10, 2004 5:19 PM- temporary digs

This is the view from the deck of our rental house at 7am this morning.

While the weather is good, I can have my coffee out here and I do.

Before you make fun of my slippers, you should know they are the most comfortable slippers on the planet with solid rubber soles so I can wear them right out into the yard when I go chasing after my wildebeasts. I don't like the excessive furry exterior either, but hey-- homage to Eva Gabor, n'est-ce pas?

More views an hour later. Today has to be the most gorgeous day of the year. Hot sun, cool breeze no bugs--- I feel like I am on holiday. If this all looks to you like the same view as from our place-- you wouldn't be so far off the mark. This rental is on the other side of the same lake. If you look at these pics, our place is on the other side in the hills to the left.

I have been working hard this morning to clean the house and unpack and organize and get settled in so that we no longer feel like we are living in a hotel. The dogs are absolutely thrilled with their new digs because we are on 50 acres and they can just run outside and race around in the woods. They also love the deck cause we have it gated off so that it contains them like a giant playpen.

Me? I am not completely grounded. We have definitely left the city life behind where we had all of our computers networked and had high-speed internet and cable tv. Now, we have a dial-up. A DIAL-UP! It blows. And only 2 tv channels, ABC and PBS and both are very fuzzy. Also, our cell phone doesn't work up here so our phone is a landline on a short cord. Takes some getting used to for sure. But it is interesting to see how the quiet and calm are entering my system and slowing me down in a good way.

My computer is upstairs in a bedroom I will use as an office for the next 10 months. It has no internet, but is a good scene for writing and nothing but writing.

Right now-- it's more unpacking, laundry and organizing for me. Thank you for all your fabulous comments. I truly get overwhelmed by how incredibly generous you all are with your kind words. One of these days soon once I am more in sinc with my rural life and can manage some decent posts, I'll blog about some of the INSANE people who live in northern New England and you'll remember that I am a splenetic misanthrope and nothing like this "sweet bluepoppy personage" y'all have got me confused with.

Til then-- gros bisoux!

ohhhhhh bluepoppy - what a beautiful temporary place! I mean, it's no 82, but I think it's quite lovely. I didn't know you could rent a place with 50 acres! I think your slippers look very comfy. Nice coffee mug, too! And I know you keep saying you are a misanthrope, but we do think you're just splendid and so pass a box, will ya? We've got some work to do!

Yowsa. I'm relatively new here, and thus don't know what the new place will look like, but this is amazing. Nice work with the camera, too. You've captured your beautiful day perfectly.

Life SHOULD be like a vacation, enjoy your solitude and downtime from civilization and technological one-up-man-ship. Your feet and your slippers look like they are having the love affair of their lives. Misanthrope, schmisanthrope :)

We've lived on two t.v. channels for the past two years, and I can't really picture cable being our lives anytime soon. We haven't missed it and I'm sure you won't either with a view like that! Good luck settling in!

I was raised on only two tv channels, and am kind of looking foward to NOT having the distraction of cable. I'll be able to get alot more accomplished. Best of luck to you... beautiful pictures... just gorgeous.

it looks so gorgeous there . . . so peaceful . . . and the lack of electronic communication and entertainment just might inspire more: writing! . . . step by step you are creating a life that fits better . . . yay for you and your guys :) K

Oh it's beautiful! I'm weeping [don't I always weep in your comments section? Someone hand me a tissue and tell me to get a grip] because where we are moving there are no trees. Just rolling hills of sagebrush. I hate the desert! My feet are also freezing and I need me some furry slippers.

Fifty acres?! Good god, woman, you do lead the dream life. The view is gorgeous, I think your current set-up sounds heavenly--it appeals to the Luddite in me. Here's to some great writing in your new setting!

Looks lovely! Where in NE are you? Here in VT it's been a lovely autumn already... too bad we're past peak. I think fall and spring should switch places - in terms of length - with summer and winter. Fall is my favorite season, and it's only here for 2 weeks! Winter lasts FOREVER!! Looks lovely. Keep me posted, I'd still love to meet you some time and see if I need to debunk the rumours too. xoxo

There is nothing quite like an incredible view to clear your mind. It does really good things for the soul to be immersed in natural surroundings like that. Live it up!

I would trade internet and cell phones for that view on 50 acres in a HEARTBEAT. Especially in fall in New England. So beautiful. So, so jealous.
